Easy step by step instructions on how to freeze fresh green beans without blanching.  These green beans will last up to a year. You can use them in casseroles, soups, stir fry and more!

If your garden is anything like ours right now you might be picking pounds and pounds of green beans.  And if you’re anything like me, you really don’t want to turn on your stove to boil water to preserve your green beans during the Summer.

Last year I started to freeze our fresh green beans this way and they stayed extra fresh, keeping their bright green color and crunch.   These frozen green beans last up to a year in the freezer making them a easy and economical way to save your green beans.

Can you freeze green beans without blanching?

Yes!  You can freeze fresh green beans without blanching.  The method below saves time because it doesn’t require blanching the beans.   You’re just going to trim the ends off, chop into desired sizes, wash them and freeze!  It’s that easy!

This is my tried and tested method that I’ve been using for years with our green beans!

Wish I had seen this before I froze a ton of green beans from the garden without trimming the ends/cutting them up. I spent time today trying to make some for my son and they all came out mushy, no matter how I cooked them.

Do you have any secret tips to getting all of the dirt off the beans? I feel like I wash, then wash again, then wash again and still find dirt!!

Hey CW, I love using my salad spinner for washing my vegetables. After I give them a quick wash and scrub with my hands, I will throw them in the salad spinner for a few spins. The one I use is here: https://amzn.to/2wcNALg Hope this helps!

Hi Pamela, I’ve frozen my green beans this way in the past, and when I thawed them out to use, the skins slipped off and made the dish I was preparing very unappetizing. Have you ever experienced this? Maybe I did something wrong, but I never used this method again. Thinking of giving this a try, thanks for the info.

I am with you Linda, it does offend me to hear the Lord’s name in vain. Let’s keep it clean for everyone to enjoy. I am not judging or anything like that at all. Just saying……some people are offended by it. If you wouldn’t have put that in your comments, it would not have made a difference in getting your point across, then more people could have enjoyed your posting. But seeing the language that was completely unnecessary, I won’t be back.

I think God has a sense of humor too, just read about Gideon’s dream. However, he said “I will not hold him guiltless who takes my name in vain”. I appreciate the time spent in preparing this. But nobody has actually caused green beans to grow, we only work with the miraculous way God has designed the world to work and the goodness he gives to everyone (before judgement, at least), even those who dishonor his name and don’t give a rip about him.

Trimming with a knife wastes perfectly good bean. Just break off stem end close to end. Leave tail. It is not necessary to cut off the tail.

So glad to know I don’t have to blanch them, this is my first year growing green beans and I planted 100 feet, 8″ apart! lol Too time consuming to be doing all that blanching. I especially enjoyed your pic of frozen beans one year later – I’ll be using a vacuum sealer and it’s awesome to see how well the long-term frozen beans hold their color. Thank you!

17 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him, Jesus said.

18 But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves, Jesus said.

You don’t get to choose what others find offensive. Whatever this person (won’t use the word ‘lady’) thinks of God, common decency and courtesy would lead one to stay away from language that is likely to offend. After so many requests to remove the words she didn’t so either she gets her jollies out of offending folks or doesn’t care a bit what her readers think. That’s enough for me not to come back.
As a less significant observation: ending every other sentence with an exclamation point does not automatically make the content exciting. That’s another unfortunate characteristic of someone who is just a bit too full of themselves.
