My Overall Approach
My approach is simple. I share recipes that my family loves. The recipes I share are tried and trusted recipes that I make for my husband and 3 kids. Almost every recipe we have on our dinner table you will find on Brooklyn Farm Girl. It’s truly a personal experience where I’m sharing the food we eat!
Many of the recipes I share feature vegetables and fruits that we grow in our New York City garden. I’m a true believer that you can grow your own food anywhere (let it be 5 acres, a community garden plot or on your rooftop), so as the seasons change you will see the recipes change depending on what’s in season for our Brooklyn garden.
I have a handy vegetable index that you can quickly find at the top of every recipe, labeling what vegetables are used in each recipe. This hopefully helps you if you’re looking for what the heck to do with all that cabbage (or other veggie) you’re growing!
Recipe Development and Testing
All recipes are developed and tested by me. Nothing is posted unless my family has tried it and liked it. Most of the recipes are tested multiple times, perfecting ingredient amounts, as well as limiting step amounts to always make a recipe the easiest (and fastest) way possible. I’m a busy working Mom so the time a recipe takes (including prep time) is very important to me.
Recipes are checked before posting (multiple times), and checked again after posting. Occasionally I will make a typo in the recipe which a visitor will notice. Please inform me of any errors you spot so I can quickly change it (and thank you!).
Post Writing
Brooklyn Farm Girl is Pamela Reed, so I research and write my own content. Recipe posts are written by me, and follow a simple formula of:
- Introducing why we love the recipe.
- List of ingredients, including any substitutions that can work. I use simple ingredients that can be found at any grocery store, no matter where you’re located.
- Step-by-step directions on how to make the recipe, including photos.
- Questions that might arise if you want to make the recipe. I try to predict questions, and sometimes will update a post if I’m seeing a question frequently asked.
- Storing, reheating and freezing directions.
- Full recipe, with option to print.
Occasionally you will see that a post is co-written by Matthew Rader or him mentioned. That is my partner, who is an expert gardener and builder. He often helps me write gardening posts, reading them after I write them, to give further tips based on his experience. He also writes construction posts providing clear instructions on how to build things in the garden or home, as he can build practically anything.
Commenting Policy
I love comments. I make recipes for people to love, so if you love it, please leave a comment because it really does make my day reading them. If you have recipe questions or suggestions, please leave them! Please note that sometimes it takes me a little bit to get back to questions due to the quantity of comments left, but do know that I read every single comment and try to respond as quick as possible if a response is needed.
My commenting policy is simple. Be nice. I do not tolerate threatening, abusive, harassing or defamatory comments that make derogatory, hateful, or offensive statements about an individual or a group. I reserve the right to remove comments that do not meet these standards. The removal of any comment shall be solely at the discretion of the owner of Brooklyn Farm Girl.
