My favorite juicy mushrooms to serve over mashed potatoes and steak! All you need is mushrooms, soy sauce, butter and minced garlic! This is my go-to recipe for our favorite mushroom side dish – try it and find out why!
Soy Sauce Mushrooms
What’s more to say about these soy sauce mushrooms except that if you make them please invite me over because they are my absolute favorite!
The mushrooms are buttery, juicy and saucy, everything you need to top off a steak with! They are ready within 10 minutes of slicing up the mushrooms, making them a super easy side dish to serve! I hope you try them very soon!
The Best Mushrooms for Steak and Mashed Potatoes
These are our favorite mushrooms to top our steak, meatloaf (btw have you ever added cheese to your meatloaf? so good!), salisbury steak, German pork chops and mashed potatoes with!
Besides that you can serve them over oven baked salmon, instant pot pork chops, or homemade egg noodles and call it dinner!
Ingredients:
- Butter – salted or not salted, although we always buy salted butter.
- Whole Button Mushrooms – slice them, or buy them already sliced.
- Soy Sauce – I recommend low sodium soy sauce.
- Pantry Basics – Minced Garlic & Pepper
Looking to double this recipe for a crowd? Only add 1 tablespoon soy sauce!
What kind of mushrooms should I use?
Button, Portabella and Cremini mushrooms all will work. Personally we prefer button mushrooms!
How to Make Saucy Mushrooms
Melt butter in a skillet (medium to large size) and add mushrooms. During this time the mushrooms will release their juices.
Add in minced garlic, soy sauce and a pinch of pepper into the skillet.
Continue cooking until the liquid has evaporated and you have saucy mushrooms left.
Serve over steak and mashed potatoes and enjoy!

Just went to the store this evening and getting ready to make those stuffed shells with ricotta, ground beef, and mushrooms. Can’t wait to make the sweet mushrooms too only bought a half a pound of mushrooms to add to the hamburger for the stuffed shells. Got to go back now and get more mushrooms. Good tip about when doubling recipe not to double the soy sauce. I too use low sodium. And I use the same butter as you and thought it as well. As they say.. great minds think alike!
