Slow Cooker Ground Beef Cabbage Soup

You are going to love this hearty cabbage soup, made in the slow cooker! My family, especially my husband, would request a crockpot cabbage recipe every night of the week if he could so this was a big hit! Cabbage Soup and Cabbage Jambalaya with Sausage and Potatoes are some of his fav, but for this recipe I wanted to make it even easier so I took out our crockpot!

All you need to do is brown the ground beef and then throw all the other ingredients into the slow cooker. Here’s a video I made to show you how simple it is to make!

How long does Cabbage Soup take to cook in the Slow Cooker?

This soup takes 20 minutes to prep, and 6 hours, cooked on low, in the slow cooker.

What Goes in Cabbage Soup?

  1. Meat. You’ll need 1 pound of ground beef. Since we’re slow cooking it I recommend a ground beef that has less fat, this will prevent the soup from becoming greasy.
  2. Onion & Garlic
  3. Cabbage. One medium-sized head of cabbage, core removed and chopped.
  4. Cans. You’ll need pinto beans, diced tomatoes and tomato sauce.
  5. Beef Broth
  6. Salt & Pepper to taste.

How Do You Make Cabbage Soup in a Crock Pot?

Brown ground beef, along with onion and garlic in a large pan. Once the beef is browned, drain it and then place it in your slow cooker.

It was so tasty and good but….Why did my cabbage come out crunchy? Is it not supposed to soften?

Hey Sheila, seems like your cabbage needed extra time. 6 hours should plenty of time, but it sounds like yours needed a little bit longer!

Ok. I ended up cooking but for 11 hrs. Not sure why my cabbage took so long.
Nonetheless I will make this again. It was very delicious.
