Instant Pot Kielbasa and Cabbage

Sometimes I don’t have enough time for our favorite Slow Cooker Kielbasa and Cabbage recipe, so I wanted to share a really quick Instant Pot version – that tastes just like the crockpot but so much faster!

All you need to do is chop the kielbasa, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, and onions, then add everything—along with the broth and seasonings—straight into the Instant Pot. Close the lid, set it, and let the Instant Pot do all the work for 15 minutes! In no time, you’ll have a comforting, flavorful Instant Pot kielbasa and cabbage dinner that’s ready to serve. It’s the ultimate easy one-pot weeknight meal and one of our favorite pressure cooker cabbage and sausage recipes.

You can serve this as is, but my family prefers it served over white rice or egg noodles for a full meal.

Instant Pot Cabbage Recipe Ingredients

I make this recipe a lot. Here’s my key ingredient tips:

  • Cabbage: Use green cabbage and cut it into thick wedges or large chunks so it doesn’t overcook and disappear in the Instant Pot. It should be tender but not mushy.
  • Potatoes: Yukon Gold or red potatoes hold their shape best. Cut them into large pieces so they stay firm during pressure cooking.
  • Carrots & Onion: Slice carrots into thick rounds and chop the onion into thick slices. Both add sweetness and help flavor the broth as they cook.
  • Beef Kielbasa: Slice into 1/2-inch rounds. Browning the kielbasa for 1–2 minutes on sauté mode adds great flavor, but it’s optional if you’re in a hurry.
  • Chicken Broth: Use low-sodium broth to control the salt level. The broth becomes the base of your flavorful cabbage and kielbasa mixture.

How to Make in the Instant Pot

Chop up the kielbasa and vegetables.

Add all of the ingredients into the Instant Pot and stir.

Close lid and cook on HIGH pressure.

Release pressure using the quick-release method. This takes about 3-5 minutes.

Enjoy it as is, or make it heartier by serving over rice or egg noodles.

I went with 7 minutes Pressure Cooking time, after reading comments, and that still ensured everything was soft. Doubled the salt because I went heavier on the carrots and added an extra potato, but it was good. (Also threw in a rib of celery, just because I had extra, but optional.) I had doubted the brown sugar, but because I used a bit more black pepper and garlic, plus a dash each of fennel, paprika, and dry mustard, the sweet balance was actually welcome. Like most stews, even better the next day!

This recipe was wonderful. I’m recently out of hospital with weird taste buds lately & the flavors in this were perfect & savory. I ate mine as a soup & added an extra half cup of stock. Set Instant to high pressure for minutes, per reviews. Thanks for that heads up.

Definitely making again. Used a bag of mini potatoes halved and a bag of coleslaw mix for additional time saving. High pressure for 5 minutes and quick release right away. A little sour cream on top – was freakin delicious.

I enjoyed this recipe. I will be making it again! I omitted the potatoes and ate it alone without the noodles or the rice. I plan to add to my recipe rotation. Thank you very much for sharing with us!

DO NOT COOK THIS FOR 15 MINUTES. After reading the reviews I figured I’d start with 5 minutes and go from there. Good thing I did, the cabbage was mushy. The flavor was great. I added the crushed red pepper which gave it a little kick.

I love the taste of this recipe however the cabbage is too mushy. I’ve made this twice now. The first time I followed the timing on the recipe. This time I only did 10 minutes and it was still too mushy. Next time I think I’ll try 5 minutes.
