Easy to make crockpot green beans, potatoes and Kielbasa recipe, ready in 4 hours. Simply add everything to the slow cooker and enjoy!

The Best Crockpot Kielbasa and Green Beans Recipe

A busy day is inevitable, and that’s exactly when an easy dinner recipe saves the day. Just toss everything into your crockpot and let it do all the work! One of my favorite go-to meals is Kielbasa with Green Beans and tomatoes, but admittedly, I prefer this recipe without the tomatoes. This is a simple yet flavorful dish where seasoned potatoes, crisp green beans, and smoky kielbasa come together perfectly. Sausage and potatoes are the ultimate comfort food, and trust me, the whole family will be asking for seconds!

I also love switching things up with other green bean recipes, like my Kielbasa Potato and Green Bean Casserole and buttery Green Beans, Kielbasa and Corn Skillet.

This recipe requires minimal prep time but about four hours of hands-off cooking. The best part? You don’t have to hover over the stove. By the time dinner is ready, you’ll have checked off your to-do list— running errands, watering your garden or helping the kids with homework. Then, all that’s left to do is serve and enjoy!

I hope you like this recipe! There’s just something about the simplicity of kielbasa, green beans, and potatoes that makes this meal an easy classic!

sliced kielbasa on plate.

This is the best crockpot recipe because it includes the best flavor, tender vegetables, hearty potatoes, and sausage. My favorite part of this dish is that it’s super easy to make. It also doesn’t hurt that it has the best flavor. It’s a comforting meal, as most potato recipes are, perfect for a cold evening when you want something warm and filling your stomach.

This crockpot recipe is simpler and heavily relies on the seasoning to set when cooking in the crockpot. This method brings the dish to life because the seasoning has time to soak and seep into the meat and potatoes. If you’d like you can prepare a side dish of egg noodles or rice for a complete meal. The whole family is sure to enjoy trying a new, hearty meal like this one!

How to Make Crockpot Kielbasa and Green Beans

First, prepare your ingredients by cutting up the potatoes and green beans. This is honestly the part that takes the most time, so feel free to prep this the night before if you’d like!

Add the kielbasa, green beans and potatoes into the slow cooker.

Add chicken broth and spices on top and stir.

Close lid and cook! It’s that easy! Serve as is (I find it plenty hearty as is) or over white rice or egg noodles. I hope you love these Crockpot Kielbasa and Green Beans as much as we do!

Storing Leftovers

Store your leftover kielbasa and green beans in an airtight container or double wrap tightly in plastic then place them in the refrigerator. If stored properly, your leftovers can last up to four days.

You can also freeze this recipe to make it last longer. Eat within a month for best results. Thaw and cook in a skillet to enjoy next time!

Crockpot Kielbasa and Green Beans FAQs

What does kielbasa mean?

Kielbasa means ‘sausage’ in Polish. This sausage typically contains garlic giving it a rich flavor. However, kielbasa to Americans often refers to a type of smoked sausage. Kielbasa is an Eastern European sausage, but has variations from Ukraine, Russia, and other nearby countries.

What is traditionally served with kielbasa?

For this recipe, green beans and potatoes are the vegetable of choice. To make a complete dinner, a great way to pair it is with rice, egg noodles, coleslaw, or potato salad.

How long should you cook kielbasa?

For this easy recipe, the kielbasa is cooked in the crockpot for 4 hours on HIGH or 6 hours on LOW.

Can I use other potatoes for this recipe?

The short answer is yes. While I found large potatoes to be ideal (especially if you love potatoes and want a lot), you can use baby potatoes if that’s what you have on hand. Otherwise, yellow potatoes, red potatoes, or russet potatoes also work.

    > Cuisine: Polish

Although you would think this is Polish cuisine, it is actually American. Both my parents and their parents made this throughout my childhood in a southern USA state (Arkansas). None of them have any Polish ancestry.

Today—four years after moving to Poland to be with my Polish wife—I saw kielbasa on sale recently at Lidl and the memories of this food came back. So I asked my wife about it and she was deeply confused. She has never heard of this, and thinks it will be bland.

My wife said that Polish people normally eat sausages in leczo, borscht, bigos, and kapusta kiszona (aka sauerkraut), but she has never thought to use it with potatoes and green beans. So she used half our kielbasa to make a pot of leczo. Tomorrow will be my turn to make this.

I will attempt to prove her wrong about this being bland. Even went through the effort to make my own chicken stock by separating every cut of meat from four whole raw chickens for the freezer, and then simmering the skin, fat, and bones for 40 hours in a slow cooker.

Delicious! I made just a few alterations. I used fresh garlic instead of powdered, frozen green beans instead of fresh and small red and gold potatoes instead of four large potatoes.

Going to make this. Are you using fresh (uncooked) kielbasa in this recipe or fully cooked such a Hillshire Farms? Both are readily available in my area. Thanks!

Instead of using crockpot (I have the big heavy one!), what would be the cooking time on top stove in large pot?

Hi, going to try this recipe today and my question is I grow my own green beans and canned them each year. So should I wait to add them Or do you think they will be fine putting him in with everything else?

I made a change by cooking this in the pressure cooker because I decided to make this as a last minute dinner. I also sauteed the sausage before putting everything in the pot. I didn’t add any salt and I used minced dry onion instead of onion powder.

I made this recipe minus the onion powder, only because I had an onion that I needed to use up. I could have cut the potatoes into smaller chunks, but it was still fine. I also used about 16oz. of frozen green beans. My husband and I thought this was very good. The broth was seasoned well, and we plan to make this again.

I agree with you. Just because something is available year around, doesn’t mean it’s very good. I want to use frozen green beans too. Did you start everything else on high (4 hrs) and add your frozen green beans the last the 2 hours? Or it you start everything on low and put the green beans in and switch it to high? Thanks – Pam

Hey Wendy, I’m not sure where you’re located, but if you’re in the United States, most grocery stores have green beans year round in the produce section. If that doesn’t work, check out my crockpot recipe using cabbage, potatoes and carrots: https://brooklynfarmgirl.com/slow-cooker-sausage-and-cabbage/ – enjoy!

I’m going to use frozen and add them late to the dish…about 2 hours on high. I can get fresh year around in the stores, but they aren’t of good quality.

I used half red & half yellow potatoes, chopped red onion & fresh garlic. Also, I had about 1 cup of freshly shredded cabbage that I added & no one even knew!

What size crock pot? Since you mentioned you can use baby, yellow, red, or russet potatoes, what kind were your large potatoes? Idaho? I am definitely making this tonight. I’m caring for my father in his last days, and he loves kielbasa. (He’s Ukrainian). I love the fact you specify this can be frozen. Makes it easier on me because it provides more meals I don’t have to cook.
