Easy 2 ingredient corn tortilla chips recipe. This simple homemade recipe will have baked chips made in 10 minutes. You’ll never buy a bag of tortilla chips again!
Making Tortilla Chips From Scratch
Tortilla chips are a favorite of ours to snack on (especially with homemade salsa and dipping in easy chili!), we just love them! But what don’t I love? That $5 price tag for our favorite brand of chips! With the chips running low, I set off to create our own homemade tortilla chips from scratch, with a much lower price point.
Besides the yummy taste of a crunchy homemade tortilla chip, making your own allows you to experiment with flavors. You get to mix and match! You can try a bunch of different flavors instead of just picking one flavor in the store. At the bottom of the post I’m including some different seasonings for you to try.
I hope you’ll try to make your own tortilla chips at home!
Homemade Tortilla Chips Ingredients
You only 2 ingredients to make homemade tortilla chips!
- Corn Tortillas – one tortilla equals 4 chips so use as many as you need to equal the amount of chips you want
- Salt
By the way, you read that right – this is a healthy, no oil recipe, you don’t need oil to make tortilla chips!
How to Make Tortilla Chips – Step by Step
Follow these simple steps to make your own homemade tortilla chips from scratch. You’re going to love how easy they are to make!
Grab your bag of corn tortillas. All grocery stores have these, they’re usually around $1-$2 a bag. Mine were $1.25 to be exact.
Take them out the bag, it’s up to you how many you want to make. Each tortilla will make 4 hearty chips.
By the way, it’s totally ok if your tortillas are weird in shape, it adds character. I’m not sure what exactly happened to this bag!
Now grab a knife, we’re going to want to make some cuts.
First cut the tortillas in half.
And then cut them in half again.
Now gather your pile of cut up tortillas and put them on a baking sheet.
IMPORTANT. PLEASE READ. To get the tortilla chips to bake crispy you need to make sure there is at least 1/4 inch in between each one. If they are closer than this, or overlapping, they won’t be crunchy.
Now sprinkle some salt on each one.
Throw them in the oven and keep a eye on them. They should take 8-10 minutes until the edges turn brown. Mine took about 9 minutes. Watch them for every minute after 7 minutes. These will burn quickly so be on tortilla chip alert! 🙂
And now my favorite part, time to eat these delicious corn chips! YUM!
Tip: Different Flavors To Try
If your’e looking for some different flavors of tortilla chips to try, check out these flavors below. You’ll want to add these on top of the tortillas before they go into the oven.
Cinnamon Sugar – Mix cinnamon and sugar together on top
Parmesan Cheese – Add grated Parmesan on top
Mexican Flavor – Add a sprinkle of cumin and shredded cheddar cheese on top
My favorite besides traditional salt is cinnamon sugar. They’re perfect for my sweet tooth.

If you think corn tortillas are good with the cinnamon and sugar, try it with flour tortillas and use a homemade cherry pie filling as a dipping sauce.
