Easy step-by-step instructions on how to make perfect hard boiled eggs on the stove top that are easy to peel. The secret is covering them with a lid.
Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs
Who doesn’t love eggs? Scrambled eggs. Cheesy Omelette. Breakfast casserole. And of course hard boiled eggs. My kids absolute love hard boiled eggs for a snack, and who can blame them? Sprinkle a little bit of salt on top and they’re delicious!
Here’s my very easy instructions on how to make perfect hard boiled eggs in about 20 minutes, from start to finish. This is the only method I use as they always come out successful and makes them easy to peel (the worst part of hard boiled eggs, right?).
How long to cook hard boiled eggs for?
13 minutes is how long it takes to make a perfectly hard boiled egg.
How to Make Hard Boiled Eggs
Place eggs in a saucepan. Add cold water on top of them to cover about 2 inches higher than the eggs.
Bring to a boil on high heat.
When water starts to boil, shut off the heat, keep the pan on the burner, cover with a lid and let sit for 13 minutes. Do not take the lid off!
Remove eggs from water and move to a water ice bath. Let the eggs sit in the icy water for 15 minutes. This will cool them down and make them easy to peel.
Now peel as you normally would and enjoy!
How to Store Hard Boiled Eggs
You can store them peeled or unpeeled in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. I prefer to peel them as I need them, but if you want to have some quick eggs then peel them all before storing them.
