Easy to make fluffy rolls made in the bread machine. These dinner rolls taste like Hawaiian sweet rolls and are delicious with a little butter on top! Made with pantry staples for simple bread making!
Well, I’m all about bread making right now. This week I made a loaf of whole wheat bread, corn bread, sugar cookies (in the bread machine) and now these homemade rolls. Being in the kitchen is definitely helping me escape these stressful times, and what’s better than making fluffy little rolls that I can dab with butter and jam?
My entire family has been gobbling these up and love them so much. Matthew thinks they taste just like store bought Hawaiian sweet rolls (one of his favorites), so I’m going to bet this batch I made yesterday will be gone by night’s end!
Need to get your mind off the news? Then run to the kitchen (don’t trip over your cat!), grab your bread machine and make these fluffy bread machine rolls! Trust me, on first bite, everything is going to be ok!
Ingredients
Here’s all the ingredients that you need for this homemade rolls recipe. This is a very simple “from your pantry” recipe.
- milk (I use whole milk but you can use skim milk too)
- bread flour
- sugar
- salt
- butter (melted)
- active dry yeast
Step by Step Directions
Place all the ingredients into the pan of your bread machine. You want to set it on DOUGH cycle and press START.
Allow the bread machine to do it’s thing and wait until it completely finishes. You should see a fluffy ball of dough when you open it up!
Place dough on a floured surface and lightly deflate the dough, using your fingers to press down.
The recipe makes approximately 16 rolls so you’ll want to divide the dough up into 16. I like to rip the dough into 4, and then dive each piece into 4 again.
Place in 13×9 pan, placing them next to each other.
Now cover with a towel and allow to rise for 1 hour. Please let them rise for the entire hour. It’s important they fully rise and this gets them nice and fluffy! And during this time the blog’s photographer stopped by and took a picture! 🙂
Here they are after 1 hour of rising. I call them little soft snuggle balls of happiness!
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and bake for 16-18 minutes or until the tops are golden brown. Gorgeous!
Allow to cool for a little bit so you don’t burn your mouth, but eat them while they’re still warm! OOOOOH. Delicious!
To Egg Wash or Not to Egg Wash?
That is the question!
Look I’m not a big fan of the egg wash on top of breads and rolls. Call me crazy, but it seems like a wasted egg. I like to just grab some butter and lightly brush it on top. This gives them a buttery taste and a glossy shine, in my opinion, they’re perfect like this!
What Order Should I put Ingredients into the Bread Machine?
First, check out your bread machine manufacturer manual that should list the order of ingredients. If you don’t have the manual you can check out their website. It’s important that you put the ingredients in the correct order as it makes a difference on the way the dough is mixed, kneaded and then affects rising.
For our specific machine the ingredients goes in the order: milk, bread flour, sugar, salt, butter and active dry yeast.
Want to freeze these?
First of all, good luck not eating all these rolls within the first day. They’re that delicious. I plead the fifth in telling you how many rolls I ate! If you actually don’t eat them all and want to freeze them, that’s easy to do!
Bake rolls as usual and allow to cool completely. Wrap up in aluminum foil and then place in a freezer bag. When ready to eat, remove from foil and bag and place in the microwave for a few seconds. They won’t take long to heat back up.
I hope you enjoy these Fluffy Bread Machine Rolls! Please leave a comment if you make them!

PrintIngredients

- 3 cups bread flour
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter melted
- 1 (.25 ounce) package of active dry yeast (this equals 2 1/4 teaspoons)

- When machine is finished remove dough from machine pan and place on floured surface, lightly deflating it with your hands. Divide the dough into 16 equal size pieces and and roll into round balls.
- Spray a 13×9 pan with nonstick spray and place the dough balls onto the pan, placing them directly next to each other. Cover pan with cloth towel and let rise for 60 minutes. During this time the rolls will almost double in size.

- When serving the rolls, brush a little bit of butter on top of each one to give them a glossy finish.

Perfect rolls for Thanksgiving!! Even got them to rise at 9,000 elevation. Reduced liquid by 1 TBSP and added 2 Tsp of additional flour and they were perfection!!

Iโm on my third year making these and they are perfect every time! Family and friends rave about them and itโs so easy. I do it exactly as stated in the recipe, so for those who asked below I donโt heat the milk, yes use active dry yeast not instant yeast, and bread flour works best. Trust Pamela, she nailed this recipe!!
I just made 3 batches weโll warm up for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow (lots of guests to feed) and my husband has snatched 3 already to โtestโ :-). SUPER YUMMY was his verdict. Enjoy!
Dee says
You’re right, spot on. Beat dinner rolls by far.
But next day they weren’t as soft. I just nuked them for 15 sec and they were so good.
I’m gonna try making them with wheat flour… hoping for a good outcome!

These are delicious! Iโm making them again for Thanksgiving and using instant yeast. Thank you, Rachel, for the advice.
Lauren says
Hi Terry, this is not my recipe but here is my advice. for bread machine recipes, i use instant yeast and i use the same amount of yeast the recipe calls for. so far, i have not had any negative effects

Made twice. Perfect every time

Hello. I plan to make these rolls for Thanksgiving but I need clarification on one item and I was not able to find an answer among the many wonderful comments. I understand that ACTIVE DRY YEAST needs to be activated in warm liquid before adding to the remaining ingredients. Does the melted butter in the order provided serve as that liquid for the yeast? Or, is the action of the bread machine sufficient to activate it? Maybe I can just use INSTANT DRY YEAST and eliminate any concerns. If so, should I use the same amount, 2 1/4 teaspoons? Thanking you in advance for your help.
Rachel says
I use the Fleischmannโs bread machine instant rapid rise yeast (yes, 2 + 1/4 tsp) and works wonderfully.
For my bread machine, I put liquids first. Cold milk, melted butter, flour, sugar, salt, lightly mix the dry ingredients a little so Iโm not just dumping the yeast on top of the salt.. then I add the yeast and set to dough cycle. My go to dinner rolls

This is the easiest bread machine roll recipe I have ever found! I love these! My boys do! My family does! If you have a bread machine, whether you’re a pro or a novice, you HAVE TO TRY THIS RECIPE! It’s that simple…. and amazing! Thank you so much!
Madeleine says
Did you heat the milk and if so what temperature
Dot C says
Don’t laugh but I used my meat thermometer and just heated the milk until the butter melted. I think it was around 90-100 degrees.
MrsK says
This was my first time making homemade yeast rolls. This recipe is easy and over the top good. Before I made them I checked to see if they could be frozen since it is just two of usโฆnot sure how many will make it to the freezer. Definitely we will make again for us and for company. This will impress anyone you have over. YUMMY!

This is the best recipe for rolls that I’ve found! I need to make 2 or 3 batches for a family dinner. I only have 1 bread machine lol. Can these be made and placed in the fridge after rising until I’m ready to bake them? I would like to bake them all at once so they are hot for the dinner. Thank you!
Lauren Rodriguez says
I am wondering the same thing. My family loved these but I only have one bread machine and would like to do a few batches.
MrsK says
I made some and after the last risingโฆI put in fridge to make when we got home. They turned out great.
Lorraine Chaboyer says
Can I use AP flour? Also, has anyone used this dough for cinnamon buns?
Pamela Reed says
I have used all purpose flour if I’m out or accidentally grab the wrong jar. ๐ Lots of people have used the dough for cinnamon buns if you check the comments – enjoy!!
Albert says
Do you warm the milk, or use cold?
Pamela Reed says
I don’t warm mine, straight from the fridge.
Dot C says
It says to melt the butter so I add my butter to my milk and warm them together.
Tammy Jewell says
Delicious! Followed recipe as written with perfect results. I’ve made these 4x now, last two bakes I brushed with melted butter before baking and after. My brother in law has to get a few every bake. Soft, sweet and buttery. Thank you it’s a keeper
Angela says
These turned out amazing!!! I do have a question. My oven has a bread proofing setting. How long would I put it in for?
Pamela Reed says
I do it for the same time! ๐
Dot C says
My oven does too. I still proofed them for the full hour. My oven temp read 85 degrees

Well I have FOUND it!!!!!!
These rolls turned out so well.
My family loved them and I have now found my new bread roll recipe. Thank you

Iโm so excited to try this out! I have a panasonic breadmaker and my dough setting runs for 2 hours and 20 mins. Would i need to adjust? Does that matter at all?
Dot C says
Mine runs for a little over 2 hours as well on the dough setting. I didn’t change a thing. They turned out great!
