Easy to make fluffy rolls made in the bread machine. These dinner rolls taste like Hawaiian sweet rolls and are delicious with a little butter on top! Made with pantry staples for simple bread making!

Well, I’m all about bread making right now. This week I made a loaf of whole wheat bread, corn bread, sugar cookies (in the bread machine) and now these homemade rolls. Being in the kitchen is definitely helping me escape these stressful times, and what’s better than making fluffy little rolls that I can dab with butter and jam?
My entire family has been gobbling these up and love them so much. Matthew thinks they taste just like store bought Hawaiian sweet rolls (one of his favorites), so I’m going to bet this batch I made yesterday will be gone by night’s end!
Need to get your mind off the news? Then run to the kitchen (don’t trip over your cat!), grab your bread machine and make these fluffy bread machine rolls! Trust me, on first bite, everything is going to be ok!
Ingredients
Here’s all the ingredients that you need for this homemade rolls recipe. This is a very simple “from your pantry” recipe.
- milk (I use whole milk but you can use skim milk too)
- bread flour
- sugar
- salt
- butter (melted)
- active dry yeast

Step by Step Directions
Place all the ingredients into the pan of your bread machine. You want to set it on DOUGH cycle and press START.

Allow the bread machine to do it’s thing and wait until it completely finishes. You should see a fluffy ball of dough when you open it up!

Place dough on a floured surface and lightly deflate the dough, using your fingers to press down.

The recipe makes approximately 16 rolls so you’ll want to divide the dough up into 16. I like to rip the dough into 4, and then dive each piece into 4 again.

Place in 13×9 pan, placing them next to each other.

Now cover with a towel and allow to rise for 1 hour. Please let them rise for the entire hour. It’s important they fully rise and this gets them nice and fluffy! And during this time the blog’s photographer stopped by and took a picture! 🙂

Here they are after 1 hour of rising. I call them little soft snuggle balls of happiness!

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and bake for 16-18 minutes or until the tops are golden brown. Gorgeous!

Allow to cool for a little bit so you don’t burn your mouth, but eat them while they’re still warm! OOOOOH. Delicious!

To Egg Wash or Not to Egg Wash?
That is the question!
Look I’m not a big fan of the egg wash on top of breads and rolls. Call me crazy, but it seems like a wasted egg. I like to just grab some butter and lightly brush it on top. This gives them a buttery taste and a glossy shine, in my opinion, they’re perfect like this!

What Order Should I put Ingredients into the Bread Machine?
First, check out your bread machine manufacturer manual that should list the order of ingredients. If you don’t have the manual you can check out their website. It’s important that you put the ingredients in the correct order as it makes a difference on the way the dough is mixed, kneaded and then affects rising.
For our specific machine the ingredients goes in the order: milk, bread flour, sugar, salt, butter and active dry yeast.

Want to freeze these?
First of all, good luck not eating all these rolls within the first day. They’re that delicious. I plead the fifth in telling you how many rolls I ate! If you actually don’t eat them all and want to freeze them, that’s easy to do!
Bake rolls as usual and allow to cool completely. Wrap up in aluminum foil and then place in a freezer bag. When ready to eat, remove from foil and bag and place in the microwave for a few seconds. They won’t take long to heat back up.

I hope you enjoy these Fluffy Bread Machine Rolls! Please leave a comment if you make them!

Fluffy Bread Machine Rolls
PrintIngredients
- 1 1/4 cup milk
- 3 cups bread flour
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter melted
- 1 (.25 ounce) package of active dry yeast (this equals 2 1/4 teaspoons)
Instructions
- Place all the ingredients into the pan of your bread machine in the order that your machine manufacturer recommends. Mine recommends them in order that I listed in ingredients. Set on DOUGH cycle and press START.
- When machine is finished remove dough from machine pan and place on floured surface, lightly deflating it with your hands. Divide the dough into 16 equal size pieces and and roll into round balls.
- Spray a 13×9 pan with nonstick spray and place the dough balls onto the pan, placing them directly next to each other. Cover pan with cloth towel and let rise for 60 minutes. During this time the rolls will almost double in size.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake rolls for 16-18 minutes or until golden brown on top. Remove from oven and allow to cool down to touch.
- When serving the rolls, brush a little bit of butter on top of each one to give them a glossy finish.

Question. Can I use AP flour instead of bread flour?
Brandon says
It won’t rise as much or be as fluffy as with bread flour. I add powdered Gluten protein to AP flour to make it into bread flour for cheap. I get the gluten protein powder from the bulk bins at my grocery store for super cheap but they sell it online.

If you wanted to make these the night before you need to cook can they rise in the refrigerator or does this. Red to be all done in the same day?
Pamela Reed says
Hey Amy, I would just make them completely and store them in a container overnight. They still will be amazing the next day! 🙂
Lea B. says
Hi! Made these tonight and they’ were delicious!! I plan to make them for Thanksgiving. Have you ever tried to double the dough recipe in the bread machine? I’m a new bread machine user and still learning.
Pamela Reed says
Hey Lea, my bread machine can’t handle to double it so I’ve never tried it! Glad to hear you liked the rolls! 🙂
Karen says
If you still have your machine recipe booklet, see if you can find somewhere in there that tells you how much flour it can hold.
Linda Keeney says
A friend brought these rolls to a special dinner and they were to die for. I want to make them for Thanksgiving but am concerned about transporting. We are going to my daughters about 45 minutes away and won’t eat right away. Should I let them rise and then Transport or half bake and then Finish them off when we are ready to eat?
Pamela Reed says
Hey Linda, I would just make them completely and cover while transporting. You can even heat them up real quick in the oven if you want them to be warm. They will still be amazing! 🙂
Karen says
Ok…
Best bread recipe ever!
Made this for the first time tonight. Planned on 2 batches (for thanksgiving).
On my 3rd now to keep some in freezer for ME!!
As stated in another comment I left tonight, I had really bad luck with whatever recipe I had previously used (and there were quite a few of them I tried). Not sure what I was doing wrong.
This recipe? Not only is it extremely delicious. It’s super easy!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!
C.C. says
I’ve made these a couple of times and they did not disappoint. Thank you! Making again today to use as buns.
Bruce says
I have made these a few times. This time it was with beef tips. I’ll probably use the leftovers and make sliders as usual, or small sadwiches for my lunch. Good stuff.
MickJo says
Mine came out dense and did not rise properly but it was my error. My machine requires you to put wet ingredients in first and then dry on top and you have to be sure the yeast does not come in contact with the liquid. When I went to put the pan into the machine, I tilted the pan and some liquid ended up mixing with the yeast. They still tasted great but have more of a biscuit texture rather than roll. Going to try again for Christmas.
Carol Johnson-Brodie says
This receipe is easy and wonderful. They are fluffy. I used my bread machine on dough. The insturctions were right on it. This is my new receipe. My family continued to give them great reviews. There all gone and asking for more.
Eleanor Briggs says
I’ve made this 4 times already after only finding this recipe a week ago!! Hubby says these are the best rolls ever! Thank you 😊
Pamela Reed says
So happy you’re loving these rolls Eleanor! Thanks for stopping by and letting me know. 🙂
Laura says
I made these dinner rolls and they were delicious. Then I turned it into hamburger buns and hot dog buns.
Pamela Reed says
They’re the best, right? So happy you are enjoying them in so many ways!
Jennifer Unger says
Have made these twice and it’s officially now my new go to recipe. Delicious! Perfect in the bread machine, super easy and my family gobbled these rolls up super quick.
Pamela Reed says
So happy to hear this Jennifer, they’re def our favorite rolls too! 🙂
Beverly Bochenek says
OMG..These reminded me of Parker House rolls and the rolls my mom used to make. Loved the dough and they baked up light and fluffy. My husband said they were a winner. We make our own bread and this one goes right to the top.. I halved the batch today but will do the full batch and store them. Not ashamed to say I ate four!
Tanya Lambrechtse says
Made these yesterday with all purpose flour and they came out perfectly! Reheated some tonight to have with stew and still nice and fluffy and scrumptious, thank you for sharing the recipe 🙂
Pamela Reed says
So happy to hear you liked the rolls, they are our favorite! Keep on enjoying them!
Mary Frucelli says
Great recipe. I used kefir, AP flour and they came out great. I made 8 and baked 5 minutes longer. Could you use half whole wheat flour? And could you substitute butter with oil and another sweetener for the sugar? Thanks
Lin says
Can this be put into a loaf pan and made into bread instead of rolls? I’ve made as rolls MANY times but wanna try it for bread.
Pamela Reed says
Hey Lin, I’ve personally never tried this but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work!
Mia says
The rolls tasted good but they hardly rose. I think it’s because the recipe didn’t specify the temperature of the milk. I’m pretty sure it needs to be warm milk 😭
Gonna start a new batch
Pamela Reed says
Hey Mia, the milk doesn’t need to be warmed up – I use it straight from the refrigerator. If they didn’t rise, I would make sure that your yeast isn’t old, and also the rolls are placed in a warm place while they’re proofing. Enjoy!
Crystal says
Can you make these ahead and freeze? Then throw in the oven like store brand?
Pamela Reed says
Yes, you absolutely can!
Karen says
Making this as I type. 1st batch is proofing. Second batch in machine.
Making them for thanksgiving.
I have issues with dough making (normally very dense and some were not edible) lol
But, this, so far… is working perfectly.
I’m super excited to have the 1st batch finish proofing so I can plop them into oven then taste one!!
WISH ME LUCK!! 😁
Donna says
If you divided into 8 pieces, could these be used for hamburger buns?
Pamela says
Sure, I don’t see why not – you will probably need to add some minutes on to the time. Enjoy!
Ka yee says
HOLY MOLY!!!!! This is INSANELY GOOD. I had to exercise iMMENSE willpower not to finish all 16 rolls in one sitting!!!! So easy to make, it’s practically foolproof!!!! The kids devoured them too!!! Thank you so much!!!!
Pamela says
Hahahaha, glad you liked them! Thank you for stopping by and commenting! 🙂
Tessa says
These dinner rolls turned out wonderful! I’ve never had much success with baking, but the bread machine made it pretty fool-proof! I would say they are a little less sweet than Hawaiian rolls, but had the same texture. Great addition to our Easter dinner.

Delicious rolls…I made them to go with Amish chicken corn soup last night, and they were great. Nothing better than a bowl of homemade soup, and bread fresh from the oven.
Pamela says
Yum! That soup sounds delicious! Glad you liked the rolls! 🙂
Dena says
These are so easy to make and so yummy.
Rhonda says
This recipe is perfection. I wish i could send you a photo. I cut the dough into 16 triangles and rolled them like crescent rolls. I egg washed them and topped with sesame and poppy seeds. Fantastic. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Tammy says
Van i use all purpose flour
Pamela says
You can, although they might not be as fluffy.
Dena says
I make them with APF. They came out great
Stephen Skerritt says
I have made these 5 times in the past month. They turn out great every time. Last time I accidentally got skim milk but increased butter by a quarter cup and decreased milk by a quarter cup and they turned out great.
Jenn says
This is my go to easy fluffy bread machine dough! I love it so much I actually have used the recipe to make cinnamon rolls as well! And they turn out fluffy and so damn delicious i can’t get enough!!!
Georgine Woodley says
Can you double this. Because 16 is not enough for the people I cook for on Sunday! My machine takes 1 hr 35 on the dough cycle and I don’t want to be tied to the machine all day.
Kristen Garzaro says
Hands down the best!
Bittybenches says
Great rolls, super simple and truly foolproof. Thank you for a recipe that is absolutely excellent!

Great recipe! Very fluffy and yummy! I used this dough recipe for cinnamon rolls. I just added a little more sugar. They were awesome!
