How to Make Pancakes From Scratch

Don’t have any butter? That’s totally okay. Today, we’re making Homemade No Butter Pancakes—and trust me, they’re just as delicious (if not better) than their buttery sisters! These pancakes are so good that they quickly became our #1 pancake recipe in the house. They’re soft, fluffy, and the perfect start to any morning. Plus, they’re a great option if you’re out of butter or just want a lighter version of your favorite breakfast treat!

If you’re looking for a dairy-free option, try my No Milk No Eggs Pancakes—they’re just as fluffy and satisfying, and perfect for anyone with dietary restrictions. And while you’re at it, why not pair your pancakes with a batch of crispy bacon? I’ve got a foolproof method for how to cook bacon in the oven, so it comes out perfectly crispy every time.

If you’re craving something a little different, try my No Butter Waffle Recipe! Just as crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, these waffles are a fantastic alternative to pancakes and will satisfy any waffle lover in your house.

And if you’re in the mood for a complete breakfast spread, try adding some homemade sausage on the side. Making Homemade Breakfast Sausage is simpler than you think and will have your whole family asking for more. These pancakes, bacon, and sausage? The ultimate breakfast combo!

Dairy Free or Vegan Pancakes

If you want to make these pancakes dairy free or vegan, that’s easy.  Just substitute the milk for almond milk or oat milk and you’re all set!

If you want to make these pancakes vegan, that’s easy too.  Instead of using 1 egg, use 1/4 cup applesauce.

How to Make Pancakes With No Butter

Instead of butter we’re going to use 2 tablespoons vegetable oil and 1 cup milk for the liquid ingredients.  Even with no butter, these pancakes are going to be extra fluffy and moist!

First you’ll want to mix your dry ingredients together…like the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon!

Now add your wet ingredients to the bowl, the milk, eggs, oil and vanilla!  Don’t you love how you probably already have all the ingredients in your kitchen?

Using a pan on the stovetop, or a electric griddle (my new favorite breakfast cooker!), heat the batter over medium high heat for a few minutes, making sure to brown both sides of the pancakes! Breakfast is ready!

Hope this No Butter Pancake recipe helps you if you’re all out of butter too!  It might just become your new favorite pancake recipe!

And if you really love them, try making a double or triple batch to freeze! You’ll just need to throw them in a freezer bag to freeze.   Then you’ll microwave them just like you do for any store bought frozen pancakes.  Except these ones are so much better than store bought pancakes because they’re homemade!

Enjoy the pancakes everyone!

I love it when you can overcome an ingredient problem, sometimes the best recipes come from creative thinking. I shop in a bunch of different ways, I do a bulk shop at the beginning of the month then I pop along to the local store as and when I need to, usually for baking stuff! But I also do a bit of online shopping as I don’t drive and if my fella is away working he isn’t around to drive me to the store and like you said a taxi is a crazy way to get home! Also a lot of my baking stuff is only available online, so I am very versatile in my shopping habits 😀

I live in a small town and the shop is quite close to our house so I don’t have that problem hehe. Though now that we’re living in the summer house we do have to drive to the nearest one uuughhh :'( No such thing as online food shopping here!
These pancakes look amaaaaaaaazing! I’d never have said that the butter was missing 😉

It depends on the week or what I’m making but I try to do my grocery shopping all at once but sometimes I have to go back for a few ingredients here and there.
I love that these pancakes have no butter which is something I have to make a grocery run for sometimes. They look absolutely amazing and I wish they would magically appear right in front of me now 🙂

I try to shop once a week, but usually end up having to go back for milk. City living is so different from living in a town or suburb. I love that in a city you can walk everywhere, but the hauling groceries would be tough. That would be a good way for me to not over-buy. 😀
Love these pancakes! Cinnamon and vanilla taste great in pancakes.

Yum! I’ve never tried cinnamon in my pancakes. Will definitely try this! And I go to the grocery store a couple times a week. I can never seem to get organized enough to remember everything I need for a whole week.

One of the precious few perks of living in a small town! I’m abou 1 mile away from the store. We make 1 huge trip every 10 – 14 days and then casually pop in if we run out of apples or bananas whenever we have time. We also have a subscription to Sam’s Club, which is where we get our paper towels, kitty litter, etc. I definitely use Amazon for my hard to find ingredients though!

These pancakes look so comforting! Love that you made them without butter! I feel like I’m going to the grocery store all the time and the on I like is about a 15 minutes drive each way if there’s any traffic. We used to live just a couple of blocks from a store and I loved it! It was when my son was little and I’d go everyday and fill the bottom of the stroller up. Counted it as my exercise!

Those delivery services aren’t in my area, but Amazon Pantry is. I’ve been tempted to try it several times and I still might. We have a pretty limited selection of stores and stuff ehre, in small town USA. Luckily, my garden is started to supply most of my needs.

WE are never out of butter (we store it in our freezer) but this is a great recipe nevertheless. Something to try. We walk a ton, so anything up to 2 miles away (4 miles there and back) is fair game for us — although of course we don’t buy heavy or really bulky things when we walk (we try to do a once-a-week car trip for heavy things). But we go multiple times a week, and usually buy a bag or two of stuff each time. Amazon Prime is terrific for a lot of bulky things, BTW — paper towels, even toilet paper. You have to be careful with prices, but their subscribe and save deals are often (not always) bargains.

Hey John, we use Amazon Prime for all bulky things – including cat food and cat litter, TP, paper towels, etc. I don’t know what I’d do without Prime!

Also we’re big walkers too! Not weird for us to magically appear on a 12 mile walk through the city. 🙂

Yummy looking pancakes~ I think about people in the city all the time, how it must be to haul your groceries home! It’s hard enough driving to the store, putting them in your trunk and hauling them 50 feet to your fridge. But 10-12 blocks? Wow.
