When you think of New York – what do you think of? You probably think of Times Square, Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the great Borough of Brooklyn (hi!) and the subway. You probably think of food too! New York is the center of great food and one of the most popular foods here are bagels! Oh bagels! You beautiful, delicious things.
Bagels are great. I could live on them. They come in all flavors, you can toast them, you can eat them on the go, you could eat them for breakfast, lunch, or at 3AM in the morning in bed because you’re hungry. I’m spoiled because I get to live in the city with the best bagels in the World. There’s something about the water in NYC that creates the perfect bagel, and whatever it is, I thank it because, goodness, NYC bagels are delicious.
I’ve been wanting to share some of my favorite NYC recipes with you guys so I decided to start at the top. Ok, we’re not making bagels here, but we’re using bagels to create bagel bite chips which are my favorite snack. If you’ve bought bagel chips in the store you know they are pretty expensive for a small bag, but did you know you can make your own for just a few dollars? They’re so easy to make, extremely crunchy and full of flavor! Whenever I make these they last about 2 days in the house and I have to wrestle Matthew for the last chips.
The ingredients are EASY: bagels, olive oil, salt and pepper. Yup – that’s it. If possible, start with a NYC bagel. I order my bagels off Peapod which is my favorite grocery delivery service that brings my groceries to my apartment with a smile. My favorite brand of bagels that I buy from Peapod is “NY Brooklyn Bagels” which come in Everything, Sesame, Plain, Cinnamon Raisin, etc. These bagels are AMAZING. Want to know a funny story? It took me 3 bags of bagels to make this recipe because every single week I noticed the bagels were dissapearing out of the refrigerator. Then I realized Matthew was making a toasted NY Brooklyn bagel for his midnight snack every single night. Eventually I had to buy 2 more bags and hide one to make these chips! Since these are EVERYTHING Bagel Chips, I buy the Everything bagels which means this recipe gets easier.
To make bagel chips, first you’ll want to cut up your bagel. Start with 3 bagels.
Then cut the bagel in half.
And then cut the bagel into 1/8 inch size pieces.
And keep doing this until all the bagels are cut up into pieces.
Put the bagels on a baking sheet, add olive oil, salt/pepper on top and stir. Now throw them in the oven and just like (didn’t I tell you it was easy?) you have crunchy delicious Everything Bagel Chips!
These Bagel Chips are one of my favorite snacks because they’re so crunchy and full of flavor!
I hope you give this recipe a try because I think they’ll become one of your favorite snacks too! Enjoy!

FAQ for this recipe:
Can I use a different type of bagel besides Everything flavored?
Sure! Use whatever flavor you want. You can also use plain and add your own seasonings on top.
I made these but they didn’t turn out crispy, what happened?
If they aren’t crispy and crunchy it’s because you added too much olive oil or didn’t slice the bagels thin enough. This is a easy fix though, you just need to bake them longer until they get crispy and lightly browned.
How should I store the chips?
I use a airtight container or a big plastic bag that seals shut. If you have a vacuum sealer you can also store these for longer periods of time.
Where can I find NYC bagels if I don’t live in NYC?
There are online specialty stores that will ship you bagels. You can also contact me personally and I might be able to help you out.

I made these today and they were delicious! I used high quality olive oil, kosher salt, and fresh ground black pepper. I also added a touch of garlic powder for extra flavor! I baked them on 2 cookie sheets to make sure they did not overlap and get nice and crispy. I like how you showed the process with pictures (especially how to slice the bagels!) this recipe will be one I will use again!
