Fudgy Double Chocolate Chip Cookies
On snowy days I crave these Double Chocolate Chip Cookies. As a kid, Mom would always make me cookies or hot chocolate when I came in from a day of sledding.
As an adult, there’s nothing better than a cookie and a cup of tea on a chilly day, especially when it’s a snow day.
Ingredients In Double Chocolate Chip Cookies
- 1/2 cup butter softened
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 3/4 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- pinch of salt + additional for sprinkling on top
- 1 cup chocolate chips
In these cookies, you’ll find all of the typical ingredients needed to make homemade cookies. These cookies call for butter, white sugar, brown sugar, one egg, vanilla, flour, baking powder and baking soda.
I wanted an extra chocolaty cookie, so I made these double chocolate chip cookies with the help of cocoa powder and chocolate chips. The cookies are sweet with chocolate that melts in your mouth with a dash of salt added to the top of each cookie to really compliment it’s sweetness. Adding salt to chocolate is one of my favorite secrets in baking.
You can use chocolate chips or you can chop up a baking bar or chocolate wafers (that’s what I did below).
How Do You Make Double Chocolate Chip Cookies?
Even though double chocolate chip cookies taste amazing, they are surprisingly easy to make. Just make up some batter by mixing together butter, white sugar and brown sugar with a hand mixer. Add to that batter eggs and vanilla and keep mixing. Stir in cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Mix until fully combined. Fold in chocolate chips and stir with spoon to evenly distribute.
Roll into tablespoon-sized balls and place on cookie sheets and they are ready to bake for about 10 minutes. After they are baked, immediately sprinkle cookies with a small amount of salt on top. Very gently press down with a fork on each cookie to give it a cookie shape. Let the cookies cool for 15 minutes and they’ll harden up and be ready to go!
These double chocolate chip cookies are a personal favorite of mine. I can’t resist the rich chocolate taste, the gooey chocolate chips and the pillowy soft texture. Now the hard part is not to eat them all at once!
Make these for the holidays or any time you get a chocolate craving!
So next time you’re craving some cookies make these Double Chocolate Chip Cookies. No snow day is required! Enjoy my favorite double chocolate chip cookies!

It’s amazing to me how much snow you got there and an hour away in Connecticut, we got next to nothing. Last year we had a crazy amount of snow…this year the weather has been so weird. We are supposed to get snow overnight though. The kids are hoping for a delay. Anyhow, your cookies look delicious! Double chocolate…yum!
John/Kitchen Riffs says
It’s fun getting snowed in from time to time! Although a pain for us — we have a long driveway to shovel if we ever want to get our car out. Our at enjoys sitting in the window watching us labor. 🙂 Anyway, great cookies! Chocolate? Yes. Double chocolate? Please!

The perk of a snow day is surely all the food we get to cook/bake and eat! Chocolate cookies are perfect for nibbling on while looking at that crazy snowfall! We did so much shoveling – everyone was starving and we would’ve wiped out these cookies in no time!

We’re out on Long Island and the snow was crazy! In a good way…I love snow. 🙂 Not a bad showing for our first winter here. 🙂 Our neighbor across the street was kind enough to snow blow our walkway and driveway apron and I’ve been looking for a treat to say “thank you”. I think I’ll make these and send them over with a thank you note. Stay warm and watch out for that ice.
Pamela says
So exciting that it’s your first Winter here and you got to experience the big snow! We moved to NYC in 2005 so we got to see the 2006 blizzard and now this one too! I love snow so I’m glad to see someone else who has enjoyed it! You will be the world’s greatest neighbor for making these cookies! 🙂
Lucy says

My mom always had warm cookies or hot chocolate waiting for us when we came in from sled riding as well 🙂 And those cookies look amazing! Something about those big chocolate wafers just makes a cookie so much tastier than regular ol’ chocolate chips. Yum!
