This Easy Apple Waffles recipe is made with fresh diced apples, cinnamon, and vanilla. Make them for a quick fall breakfast that your whole family will love!

Healthy apple cinnamon waffles recipe

There’s nothing quite like apple picking in the fall. I can never get enough! I’ll fill up bag after bag to make my Apple Pie Pancakes, Apple Chips, Apple Juice, and Apple Muffins all season long.

These Easy Apple Waffles are another one of my favorite fall recipes! So soft and warming, the smell of fresh waffles, baked apples, and cinnamon will fill your home and delight your whole family for breakfast. Drizzle them in maple syrup, powdered sugar, stewed apples, or even cinnamon sugar applesauce on top to complete this fall treat.

You can easily use up all of your fresh fall apples with this recipe. Just make a really big batch of waffles and freeze them for later! They freeze well for months and take minutes to reheat in the toaster.

When it’s time to dig into these delicious homemade cinnamon apple waffles, pair them with more sweet treats and fresh fruit on the side. I love them next to Pumpkin Scones, a soft Pumpkin Donut, and a big cup of steaming hot coffee!

How to make easy apple waffles from scratch

Making waffles with apples has just one extra step compared to other homemade waffle recipes. Made with freshly diced apples and cinnamon, each bite is so warm and comforting! Better yet, they take just a few minutes to put together:

First, dice the apples into very small chunks or shred them with a box grater.

diced apples on cutting board.

Mix the milk, butter, egg, and vanilla together in a large bowl.

Next, add the flour, baking powder, sugar, cinnamon, and salt to the same bowl. Mix until you have a smooth waffle batter. Now add in the diced apples.

Place a scoop of batter in the middle of a preheated waffle iron and cook until each waffle is crisp.

Serve the hot waffles with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or with any other toppings you love!

Homemade waffle tips

  • Instead of dicing the apples, shred them with a box shredder or food processor to make them finer.
  • Top the waffles with maple syrup, cinnamon, powdered sugar, whipped cream, stewed apples, apricot jam, or homemade apple sauce.
  • To store leftovers, keep the extra waffles in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Substitutions and add-ins

  • Flour – This recipe calls for all-purpose flour but if you like your waffles extra fluffy, replace it with cake flour or pastry flour instead.
  • Buttermilk waffles – Making waffles with buttermilk and baking soda helps them fluff up and taste even better. Replace the milk in this recipe with buttermilk and add ¼ teaspoon of baking soda.
  • Gluten free – Swap the all purpose flour with a 1:1 gluten free flour blend to make gluten free waffles.
  • Dairy free – Use dairy free milk, like soy, oat or almond milk, instead of cow’s milk. Replace the butter with dairy free butter or vegetable oil instead.
  • Add-ins – Add chocolate or caramel chips to the batter or stir in more warming seasonings, like nutmeg, ginger, or cardamom.

How to freeze waffles

Craving waffles but not the fuss? Make a big batch of these apple pie waffles and freeze them! Once they’re done cooking, place the waffles in a sealed freezer bag and freeze for up to 3 months. Just defrost them in a toaster and enjoy!

Use up your leftover apples with these treats

  • Apple Pie Cookies
  • Baked Cinnamon Apples
  • Gluten Free Apple Currant Pie
  • Applesauce Brownie Bars
  • Baked Homemade Granola

This sounds SO good. What a great recipe for crisp fall mornings. We had crazy warm temperatures too, but it’s finally cooling down… hopefully a little fall air is on its way.
