Easy to make 2 HOUR Crockpot Bread recipe. Throw it in the crock pot and you will have soft homemade bread in 2 hours! This is the best bread to serve with creamy soups and casseroles.

I have not been this excited about sharing a recipe in quite some time. This Crockpot Bread is easy to make, it’s delicious and I’m so addicted I made it 2 times this week already! The bread is soft, moist and is perfect for dipping in a big bowl of creamy tomato soup or cheeseburger soup!
What is Crockpot Bread?
Crockpot Bread is homemade bread made in your crockpot. This loaf of bread is soft on the inside, with a crusty top. I love it because it’s easy to make and tastes delicious. Here’s a quick video I made to show you how simple it is to make.
Ingredients
Here’s everything you need to make this homemade bread. You probably already have everything in your pantry!
- warm water
- sugar
- active dry yeast
- salt
- vegetable oil
- all purpose flour
- rosemary (optional, but I love it!)
How to Bake Bread in the Crockpot
Pour warm water into a large bowl. Add sugar and mix until dissolved. Add dry yeast and stir. Let sit for about 10 minutes until foamy. I always find it helps to sit it in a warm spot.
Add salt to bowl and stir to dissolve. Add vegetable oil. Add flour and mix with hands until everything is combined. Knead the dough for 5 minutes and form into a round ball.
Place dough in olive oil coated bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Sit in a warm spot for 30 minutes to rise, doubling in size. Here’s a before and after so you can see how it rises.
Cut a piece of parchment paper that is the size of your slow cooker bottom and about 2 inches up the side. It’s important that you go up the sides as your dough will expand (it’s turning into bread!) and you don’t want it to stick to the side of the slow cooker. Additionally, I like to spray the parchment paper with nonstick spray. Place your dough into slow cooker. I like to sprinkle rosemary on top too.
Cook on HIGH for 2 hours. Remove from slow cooker and brush a little bit of butter on top.
From there you can serve as is, or if you like more of a crusty bread, you can broil the top of the bread. To do this, slightly butter the top of the bread and stick it in your oven under the broiler (or toaster oven on broil) for about 1 minute. Watch your bread like a hawk while you broil as it can burn very quickly. Mine usually takes about 1 minute. Now look at this crusty top!
I love not only how easy this 2 Hour Slow Cooker Bread but also how it tastes. It’s soft, moist and delicious!
I’ve really fallen in love with this bread recipe and it will be a weekly staple in my kitchen. This afternoon Matthew was making lasagna for dinner and requested that I make this bread to go along with it. Whenever you need some fresh bread, don’t stress out and take hours making it, try this recipe!
I hope you enjoy my Crockpot bread recipe!

2 HOUR Crockpot Bread
PrintIngredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- rosemary optional
Instructions
- Pour warm water into a large bowl. Add sugar and mix until dissolved. Add dry yeast and stir. Let sit for about 10 minutes until foamy. I always find it helps to sit it in a warm spot.
- Add salt to bowl and stir to dissolve. Add vegetable oil.
- Add flour and mix with hands until everything is combined. Knead the dough for 5 minutes and form into a round ball.
- Place dough in olive oil coated bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Sit in a warm spot for 30 minutes to rise, doubling in size.
- Cut a piece of parchment paper and place in bottom of slow cooker. Make sure the parchment paper comes up the bottom of the sides of the slow cooker so when the bread expands it won’t stick to the sides. Additionally, I like to spray the parchment paper with nonstick spray.
- Place your dough into slow cooker. Sprinkle with rosemary.
- Cook on HIGH for 2 hours.
- Remove from slow cooker and brush a little bit of butter on top. Place under broiler for about 1 minute until slightly brown. Keep a eye on it and make sure it does not burn! Broiling is not a necessary step but I recommend it to get the top crispy!

Do you put dough in a hot or cold crock pot? Mine takes a while to get warm
Pamela Reed says
I put it in cold and then turn it on – I don’t preheat. Hope this helps!
Christine Pope says
Super easy, but mine did not brown on the top. Was I supposed to turn it over?
Pamela says
Hey Christine, to get a browned top check out the final step in the recipe – you’ll want to put it under the broiler for a minute. Hope this helps!

I really enjoy this receipe
Jan Caglar says
Made this with wholemeal flour turned out soft but crumbly, did I do something wrong ..followed the recipe..it didn’t rise as much as should as I noticed my yeast was 6 months out of date , but, it was very tasty and will make it again. Thankyou for the recipe.

Can’t seem to find the measurements for the 2-hour Crock-Pot bread. Looked everywhere
Pamela says
Hi Joan, the measurements are in the recipe card at the end of the post (above the comments). You can also go to the top and click the “jump to recipe” button to jump directly to the card. Hope this helps!

Worked great!

its an awesome recipe as is. I have an abundance of bread flour. May I substitute it for all purpose flour ?
Pamela says
I have not made this with 100% bread flour, but I have mixed all purpose + bread flour and it turned out perfectly – so I think it could work!
Amanda says
So, I didn’t take into account the fact that the BOTTOM appeared cooked. I probably overcooked it, negating my previous comment. I did butter and broil it and it created a wonderful crust! It was delicious last night, and I can’t wait to have homemade bread, toasted, for breakfast!
Amanda says
It’s cooking right now…. this is taking waaaaay longer than 2 hours!
Sabrina says
Great recipe for so little trouble. My large cooker cooks a bit uneven so should’ve turned the loaf at one hour, but no biggie. Next I’m going to try my small cooker which would be easier to take on the road in the RV. We’ll see if it works. Thank you, Farmgirl.
Sabrina says
Oh, yeah, I had to run an errand, so I didn’t let it first. At all. Still worked!
Sabrina says
Rise, I didn’t let it rise.
Betty says
What setting for slow cooker? Low or high?
Pamela says
High.
Fredericka J Graves says
I have a 5 cup crock pot. Can you help me with correct amounts in ingredients?
Jon Scheihing says
I only see a list of ingredients! NOT a recipe. What are the measurements please?
Pamela says
Recipe is in the post in recipe box. Please scroll up to see it. You can also use “Jump to Recipe” link at the top of the page.

Has anyone tried this with GF one-to-one flour?

Love love this recipe

Happy to hear that! 🙂

I am really excited to make this bread, but I only have a 3 quart crock pot and you have used a 6 quart crock pot. So, should I just cut the recipe in half and settle for a smaller loaf of bread? Also, can I use a Crock-Pot liner and if I can, what should I spray it with to grease it? TIA!
Taria Bartley says
I “baked” this bread today! The recipe was easy to follow! My crockpot cooks unevenly, so I turn the bread mid way. And I only had to leave in for 1.5 hours instead of two. I brushed on butter and broiled…it turned out great!
Pamela says
I’m so happy to hear you liked this bread recipe. Thanks for commenting Taria! 🙂
MC says
What did I do wrong? I added the flour and as I mixed with my hands the dough just stuck to my hands 🙁 I could not get it to come together.
Pamela says
If the dough is too sticky sounds like you have too much liquid to dry ingredients ratio. You only want to use 1 cup of water for this recipe. Try adding some more flour until you can form a dough ball.
Alecia says
What size slow cooker did you use?
Tina says
Baked up a loaf this July 2020. It’s so humid in Michigan this time of year. Wonderful to have fresh bread without heating up the kitchen by using the oven. Fun activity for this quarantine time.
Pamela says
Hey Tina, glad you enjoyed this crockpot bread! Don’t you love that you don’t need to turn the oven on to make fresh bread? 🙂 Thanks for commenting!

just an FYI to everyone, I’ve made the standard bread and sourdough (which is big hit with everyone) and used coconut oil in lieu of the veg oil. Also, using “instant” yeast as opposed to “active dry yeast” (that’s what happens when you send a non-baker out to get ingredients) I find the dough rises substantially more and you end up with a much larger loaf. My crockpot runs hot and all loaves have a burnt sides….ugh. Next loaf I will try a loaf pan in the crockpot and see if that helps. Happy baking everyone

I made this bread today and my wife said it was the best bread I have made yet. I did substitute sugar with honey to great success.

This is our go to bread recipe. It rises nice and has a crusty top, never had a problem with it. Probably made it 10 times already. Thanks!
Marsha says
Will try the bread and some of those soups too!
Jeanne Nixon says
I’m excited to try your sourdough crockpot bread as well as your 2 Hr. bread. I am a beginner at making bread so I need to clarify do you cover the crockpot with the lid when it cooks or do you leave it uncovered? I looked at those two recipes and it just said to cook it on high but it didn’t mention whether it was to be covered or not. I’m afraid if I cover it that it will sweat. Please let me know thank you so much God bless you!
Pamela says
Hey Jeanne, you will close the lid on the crockpot while it bakes. Enjoy the bread recipes! 🙂
Susan J Mayo says
I only have instant/rapid rise yeast. Can I use that and also substitute canola oil for vegetable oil?
Marsha says
I will not use Canola oil, so I hope it works with coconut oil. Thanks!
