Easy to make 2 HOUR Crockpot Bread recipe. Throw it in the crock pot and you will have soft homemade bread in 2 hours! This is the best bread to serve with creamy soups and casseroles.

Crockpot Bread Recipe
I haven’t been this excited to share a recipe in a long time — this Crockpot Bread is that good. It’s incredibly easy to make, deliciously addictive, and I’ve already made it twice this week (with no signs of stopping!).
The loaf comes out soft and fluffy on the inside, with a beautifully crusty top that makes each slice feel bakery-quality. It’s one of those game-changing recipes that feels almost too easy for how impressive it tastes — I can’t wait for you to try it!
I love how versatile slow cooker bread can be. Whether you’re trying this classic loaf, my Slow Cooker Whole Wheat Bread for a heartier option, or even going the tangy route with Sourdough Crockpot Bread, you’re going to be amazed by what your crockpot can do. And if you’re feeling extra adventurous, try your hand at Slow Cooker Bagels — yes, you can make bagels in a crockpot too!
How to Bake Bread in the Crockpot
Pour warm water into a large bowl. Add sugar and mix until dissolved. Add dry yeast and stir. Let sit for about 10 minutes until foamy. I always find it helps to sit it in a warm spot.
Add salt to bowl and stir to dissolve. Add vegetable oil. Add flour and mix with hands until everything is combined. Knead the dough for 5 minutes and form into a round ball.
Place dough in olive oil coated bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Sit in a warm spot for 30 minutes to rise, doubling in size. Here’s a before and after so you can see how it rises.
Cut a piece of parchment paper that is the size of your slow cooker bottom and about 2 inches up the side. It’s important that you go up the sides as your dough will expand (it’s turning into bread!) and you don’t want it to stick to the side of the slow cooker. Additionally, I like to spray the parchment paper with nonstick spray. Place your dough into slow cooker. I like to sprinkle rosemary on top too.
Cook on HIGH for 2 hours. Remove from slow cooker and brush a little bit of butter on top.
From there you can serve as is, or if you like more of a crusty bread, you can broil the top of the bread. To do this, slightly butter the top of the bread and stick it in your oven under the broiler (or toaster oven on broil) for about 1 minute. Watch your bread like a hawk while you broil as it can burn very quickly. Mine usually takes about 1 minute. Now look at this crusty top!
I love not only how easy this 2 Hour Slow Cooker Bread but also how it tastes. It’s soft, moist and delicious!
I’ve really fallen in love with this bread recipe and it will be a weekly staple in my kitchen. This afternoon Matthew was making lasagna for dinner and requested that I make this bread to go along with it. Whenever you need some fresh bread, don’t stress out and take hours making it, try this recipe!
I hope you enjoy my Crockpot bread recipe!

2 HOUR Crockpot Bread
PrintIngredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- rosemary optional
Instructions
- Pour warm water into a large bowl. Add sugar and mix until dissolved. Add dry yeast and stir. Let sit for about 10 minutes until foamy. I always find it helps to sit it in a warm spot.
- Add salt to bowl and stir to dissolve. Add vegetable oil.
- Add flour and mix with hands until everything is combined. Knead the dough for 5 minutes and form into a round ball.
- Place dough in olive oil coated bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Sit in a warm spot for 30 minutes to rise, doubling in size.
- Cut a piece of parchment paper and place in bottom of slow cooker. Make sure the parchment paper comes up the bottom of the sides of the slow cooker so when the bread expands it won’t stick to the sides. Additionally, I like to spray the parchment paper with nonstick spray.
- Place your dough into slow cooker. Sprinkle with rosemary.
- Cook on HIGH for 2 hours.
- Remove from slow cooker and brush a little bit of butter on top. Place under broiler for about 1 minute until slightly brown. Keep a eye on it and make sure it does not burn! Broiling is not a necessary step but I recommend it to get the top crispy!

I make no-knead bread with jalapenos and sharp cheddar cheese, do you think I can put it in the crock pot?
Pamela Reed says
Oh wow, totally!!! This sounds amazing!!
Dee Biehler says
I have made my bread this way for a few years. Love how it turns outgood everytime. FYI I too am from Brooklyn, New York. Live in Florida now and my bread using this method comes out great everytime
Carol says
I’d leave bread to prove in a warm setting in crock pot …. Then set to high
Jane says
sounds delicious and easy!. I’m wondering if I can make in my Instant Pot since it has a slow cooker setting. Has anyone tried?
Becky says
Can you mix it with a kitchen aide or does it need to be hand kneaded?
Pamela says
I hand knead but you can use a mixer if you prefer.
Mania says
I would like to try this. Question, can you use the crockpot bags for this instead of parchment paper?
Pamela Reed says
Do you mean the liners? Others have used the liners successfully for easy cleanup. Hope that helps!
Danette Miller says
This was the first time I have ever made bread. It was so easy to make and to think it was cooked in a crock pot!. It just blows my mind. I was wondering, is there a reason why you just don’t turn over the bread after the 2 hours and let it brown? Just trying to get out of using the broiler.
Nadine says
Have you tried this yet? I like the idea of not turning on the oven for just a few minutes.
Mary Ann says
I really enjoyed this recipe. I have been trying different bread recipes. This one is so quick and EASY and DELICIOUS!! It’s going to be my go to for bread. Thanks for sharing.

First time I have attempted bread. This recipe is a must try for beginners like me. Followed directions exactly and I couldn’t believe it actually worked for me, as usually SOMETHING will go wrong when I’m attempting a recipe for the first time. I probably could have used less sugar and more salt, but that’s a personal preference. Also used the rosemary and glad I did.
Under the broiler until my browned preference made the bread so deliciously brown/crispy on top.
Still can’t believe I made this beautiful loaf that’s sitting my counter!
Great recipe!
Jan Caglar says
Thanks for the recipe turned out great family loved it…
Lynne Brotherton says
Do you put dough in a hot or cold crock pot? Mine takes a while to get warm
Pamela Reed says
I put it in cold and then turn it on – I don’t preheat. Hope this helps!
Christine Pope says
Super easy, but mine did not brown on the top. Was I supposed to turn it over?
Pamela says
Hey Christine, to get a browned top check out the final step in the recipe – you’ll want to put it under the broiler for a minute. Hope this helps!
charline hornberger says
I really enjoy this receipe
Jan Caglar says
Made this with wholemeal flour turned out soft but crumbly, did I do something wrong ..followed the recipe..it didn’t rise as much as should as I noticed my yeast was 6 months out of date , but, it was very tasty and will make it again. Thankyou for the recipe.
JOAN says
Can’t seem to find the measurements for the 2-hour Crock-Pot bread. Looked everywhere
Pamela says
Hi Joan, the measurements are in the recipe card at the end of the post (above the comments). You can also go to the top and click the “jump to recipe” button to jump directly to the card. Hope this helps!
Alice Maung says
Worked great!
cathleen says
its an awesome recipe as is. I have an abundance of bread flour. May I substitute it for all purpose flour ?
Pamela says
I have not made this with 100% bread flour, but I have mixed all purpose + bread flour and it turned out perfectly – so I think it could work!
Amanda says
So, I didn’t take into account the fact that the BOTTOM appeared cooked. I probably overcooked it, negating my previous comment. I did butter and broil it and it created a wonderful crust! It was delicious last night, and I can’t wait to have homemade bread, toasted, for breakfast!
Amanda says
It’s cooking right now…. this is taking waaaaay longer than 2 hours!
Sabrina says
Great recipe for so little trouble. My large cooker cooks a bit uneven so should’ve turned the loaf at one hour, but no biggie. Next I’m going to try my small cooker which would be easier to take on the road in the RV. We’ll see if it works. Thank you, Farmgirl.
Sabrina says
Oh, yeah, I had to run an errand, so I didn’t let it first. At all. Still worked!
Sabrina says
Rise, I didn’t let it rise.
Betty says
What setting for slow cooker? Low or high?
Pamela says
High.
Fredericka J Graves says
I have a 5 cup crock pot. Can you help me with correct amounts in ingredients?
Jon Scheihing says
I only see a list of ingredients! NOT a recipe. What are the measurements please?
Pamela says
Recipe is in the post in recipe box. Please scroll up to see it. You can also use “Jump to Recipe” link at the top of the page.
Carol Mccarthy-butler says
There are no measurements only ingredients
Jody Hartley says
What temperature is your warm water?

Has anyone tried this with GF one-to-one flour?
Laura's says
Love love this recipe
Pamela says
Happy to hear that! 🙂
Sheri says
I am really excited to make this bread, but I only have a 3 quart crock pot and you have used a 6 quart crock pot. So, should I just cut the recipe in half and settle for a smaller loaf of bread? Also, can I use a Crock-Pot liner and if I can, what should I spray it with to grease it? TIA!
Taria Bartley says
I “baked” this bread today! The recipe was easy to follow! My crockpot cooks unevenly, so I turn the bread mid way. And I only had to leave in for 1.5 hours instead of two. I brushed on butter and broiled…it turned out great!
Pamela says
I’m so happy to hear you liked this bread recipe. Thanks for commenting Taria! 🙂
MC says
What did I do wrong? I added the flour and as I mixed with my hands the dough just stuck to my hands 🙁 I could not get it to come together.
Pamela says
If the dough is too sticky sounds like you have too much liquid to dry ingredients ratio. You only want to use 1 cup of water for this recipe. Try adding some more flour until you can form a dough ball.
Alecia says
What size slow cooker did you use?
