The BEST Cinnamon Sugar Applesauce recipe, ready in 20 minutes on the stovetop! All you need is apples, cinnamon, sugar and lemon juice! It’s easy to make and tastes delicious! Perfect for canning if you have a bunch of apples from apple picking!

cinnamon applesauce in glass mason jar

“Best”. I know that’s pretty bold, but this applesauce is just that good. Recipes don’t have to be fancy to be good, and this easy applesauce will prove that in 20 minutes. After eating a spoonful I think you’ll agree this is the best too!

Ingredients

The ingredients are incredibly basic, you probably already have everything!

  1. apples (any variety will do)
  2. sugar (want to make it unsweetened? skip this!)
  3. cinnamon
  4. lemon juice

If you want to double or triple this recipe, just adjust the ingredient amounts.

How to Make

Peel and core apples, cut them into quarters.

Bring a large pot of water with a steamer basket to a boil. Add apples and steam until soft, about 15 minutes. Note: if you don’t have a steamer basket, you can boil the apples directly in a pot with a small amount of water, making sure to drain before moving on to the next step.

Remove apples from steamer and place in bowl. Using a potato masher or spoon, mash until smooth. You can also use a food processor to make this easier.

Add sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice to bowl and stir.
Serve immediately or put in refrigerator to use within 1 week.

Want to make with a food strainer?

I’m also including food strainer directions as I know some people like this method! I have a Weston food strainer which is really great for applesauce, pumpkin puree and tomato sauce because it peels, cores and deseeds for you!

  1.  Cut your apples into quarters. You don’t need to peel or core them.
  2. Bring a large pot of water with a steamer basket to a boil. Add apples and steam until soft, about 15 minutes.
  3. Process apples through food strainer. I like to run the apple peels through twice. Place pureed apples in bowl.
  4. Add sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice to apple puree bowl and stir.
  5. Serve immediately or put in refrigerator to use within 1 week. Alternatively, you can can or freeze this recipe.

What can you do with applesauce?

  1. Make these Applesauce Brownie Bars!
  2. Eat plain (my favorite way!)
  3. Throw fruits on top, like blueberries or strawberries, for a fresh dessert.
  4. Add to your meatloaf, this makes it extra moist.
  5. Bake with it (cookies, brownies, bread, etc), or make pancakes and waffles- subsitute applesauce for oil.
  6. Add to your smoothie (you can freeze applesauce in ice cube trays)
  7. Peanut butter and applesauce sandwich! (You gotta try it!)

I hope you enjoy this Cinnamon Sugar Applesauce! I can’t get enough of it! PS. Try my crockpot applesauce recipe too!

Would you believe that applesauce is nearly nonexistent in the UK? I was so confused when I first started grocery shopping there… they have it only in health food stores and in little jars along the baby food aisle! Hahah, needless to say, I’ll probably need to start making my own when I get back. Thanks for this recipe—I bet it’s ten times better than store-bought anyway!

That’s crazy, but good to know! I hope you try this and get your applesauce snack back in, let me know if you do Irina! 🙂
