Easy to make 2 HOUR Crockpot Bread recipe. Throw it in the crock pot and you will have soft homemade bread in 2 hours! This is the best bread to serve with creamy soups and casseroles.

Crockpot Bread Recipe
I haven’t been this excited to share a recipe in a long time — this Crockpot Bread is that good. It’s incredibly easy to make, deliciously addictive, and I’ve already made it twice this week (with no signs of stopping!).
The loaf comes out soft and fluffy on the inside, with a beautifully crusty top that makes each slice feel bakery-quality. It’s one of those game-changing recipes that feels almost too easy for how impressive it tastes — I can’t wait for you to try it!
I love how versatile slow cooker bread can be. Whether you’re trying this classic loaf, my Slow Cooker Whole Wheat Bread for a heartier option, or even going the tangy route with Sourdough Crockpot Bread, you’re going to be amazed by what your crockpot can do. And if you’re feeling extra adventurous, try your hand at Slow Cooker Bagels — yes, you can make bagels in a crockpot too!

How to Bake Bread in the Crockpot
Pour warm water into a large bowl. Add sugar and mix until dissolved. Add dry yeast and stir. Let sit for about 10 minutes until foamy. I always find it helps to sit it in a warm spot.
Add salt to bowl and stir to dissolve. Add vegetable oil. Add flour and mix with hands until everything is combined. Knead the dough for 5 minutes and form into a round ball.
Place dough in olive oil coated bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Sit in a warm spot for 30 minutes to rise, doubling in size. Here’s a before and after so you can see how it rises.

Cut a piece of parchment paper that is the size of your slow cooker bottom and about 2 inches up the side. It’s important that you go up the sides as your dough will expand (it’s turning into bread!) and you don’t want it to stick to the side of the slow cooker. Additionally, I like to spray the parchment paper with nonstick spray. Place your dough into slow cooker. I like to sprinkle rosemary on top too.

Cook on HIGH for 2 hours. Remove from slow cooker and brush a little bit of butter on top.

From there you can serve as is, or if you like more of a crusty bread, you can broil the top of the bread. To do this, slightly butter the top of the bread and stick it in your oven under the broiler (or toaster oven on broil) for about 1 minute. Watch your bread like a hawk while you broil as it can burn very quickly. Mine usually takes about 1 minute. Now look at this crusty top!

I love not only how easy this 2 Hour Slow Cooker Bread but also how it tastes. It’s soft, moist and delicious!

I’ve really fallen in love with this bread recipe and it will be a weekly staple in my kitchen. This afternoon Matthew was making lasagna for dinner and requested that I make this bread to go along with it. Whenever you need some fresh bread, don’t stress out and take hours making it, try this recipe!
I hope you enjoy my Crockpot bread recipe!

2 HOUR Crockpot Bread
PrintIngredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- rosemary optional
Instructions
- Pour warm water into a large bowl. Add sugar and mix until dissolved. Add dry yeast and stir. Let sit for about 10 minutes until foamy. I always find it helps to sit it in a warm spot.
- Add salt to bowl and stir to dissolve. Add vegetable oil.
- Add flour and mix with hands until everything is combined. Knead the dough for 5 minutes and form into a round ball.
- Place dough in olive oil coated bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Sit in a warm spot for 30 minutes to rise, doubling in size.
- Cut a piece of parchment paper and place in bottom of slow cooker. Make sure the parchment paper comes up the bottom of the sides of the slow cooker so when the bread expands it won’t stick to the sides. Additionally, I like to spray the parchment paper with nonstick spray.
- Place your dough into slow cooker. Sprinkle with rosemary.
- Cook on HIGH for 2 hours.
- Remove from slow cooker and brush a little bit of butter on top. Place under broiler for about 1 minute until slightly brown. Keep a eye on it and make sure it does not burn! Broiling is not a necessary step but I recommend it to get the top crispy!

Baked up a loaf this July 2020. It’s so humid in Michigan this time of year. Wonderful to have fresh bread without heating up the kitchen by using the oven. Fun activity for this quarantine time.
Pamela says
Hey Tina, glad you enjoyed this crockpot bread! Don’t you love that you don’t need to turn the oven on to make fresh bread? 🙂 Thanks for commenting!

just an FYI to everyone, I’ve made the standard bread and sourdough (which is big hit with everyone) and used coconut oil in lieu of the veg oil. Also, using “instant” yeast as opposed to “active dry yeast” (that’s what happens when you send a non-baker out to get ingredients) I find the dough rises substantially more and you end up with a much larger loaf. My crockpot runs hot and all loaves have a burnt sides….ugh. Next loaf I will try a loaf pan in the crockpot and see if that helps. Happy baking everyone

I made this bread today and my wife said it was the best bread I have made yet. I did substitute sugar with honey to great success.
Nicole says
This is our go to bread recipe. It rises nice and has a crusty top, never had a problem with it. Probably made it 10 times already. Thanks!
Marsha says
Will try the bread and some of those soups too!
Jeanne Nixon says
I’m excited to try your sourdough crockpot bread as well as your 2 Hr. bread. I am a beginner at making bread so I need to clarify do you cover the crockpot with the lid when it cooks or do you leave it uncovered? I looked at those two recipes and it just said to cook it on high but it didn’t mention whether it was to be covered or not. I’m afraid if I cover it that it will sweat. Please let me know thank you so much God bless you!
Pamela says
Hey Jeanne, you will close the lid on the crockpot while it bakes. Enjoy the bread recipes! 🙂
Susan J Mayo says
I only have instant/rapid rise yeast. Can I use that and also substitute canola oil for vegetable oil?
Marsha says
I will not use Canola oil, so I hope it works with coconut oil. Thanks!
Saskia S says
I made this recipe and it came out delicious. Thank you! Could you use the same technique and use almond flour instead of the all purposed flour?
just another bored dude says
I made this recipe, with the only modification of adding thyme with the rosemary. Mine didn’t get as brown but next time I’ll keep it in my crockpot a bit longer. This is f’ng delicious. I only made it for Instagram since I rarely eat bread, but plan to make this again for guests if we ever can have dinner parties again. I would say the final texture was more like a biscuit than bread, but it was delicious.
CV says
instead of leaving in the crockpot, I put mine in the over @ 425 …. 5 to 15 minutes. you have to watch it.
Joanna says
I made it exactly as the recipe states but the ball of dough was not very form. My dough tended to spread more? Is that normal?
Stephen Nottinghamshire England says
IT REALLY WORKS !
I have tried a number of recipes for slow cooker bread with a range of results but non of them come close to the success I have had with your method.
THANK YOU
I have only just discovered your site but look forward to trying more of you recipes and methods.

I made this bread but used quick rising yeast, as I did not have dry yeast. It came out perfect, tasted delicious and looks just like yours.
Fereza Diljohn says
Can I use foil instead of parchment paper in the Crock-Pot to make the 🍞 bread ?
Francine Hubbell says
Can less sugar be used?
Pamela says
Yes, you can use less sugar if you’d like.
Richard Thater says
I never use my oven so I was happy to try this crock pot version of fresh bread. The bread has a great mouth feel {substantial} and tastes great. I do not like a crispy crust , even on rolls, so this is my dream bread. It is a great substitute for bisquits as the base for sausage gravy.
Jan M. says
I made this and really liked it. My only problem was that I didn’t have parchment paper, so I just greased the crock pot bowl really well instead. The bread ended up burned on the bottom and lower sides. Is there anything I can do to correct this (cook on low for longer, maybe?) or do I just really need the parchment paper?
Katherine says
You did not mention if the lid was put on the slow cooker while baking the bread.
Pamela says
Yes, close the lid of the crockpot as you normally would when cooking with it. Enjoy the bread!
Kim says
Can I bake your recipe in loaf pans in the oven or use a loaf pan in the Crock-Pot? Would like a loaf shape
Pamela says
Hey Kim, you can use a loaf pan in the crockpot.
Swapna says
Hi ..I would like to try this recipe but I’m out of yeast. Could I use baking powder instead? Would that help?
pat peichel says
after the 30 min rise do you punch it down then put in slow cooker?
Bonnie Farr says
Trying the recipe today can’t wait to see if it turns out for me. Looks very tasty,
Claudia says
It’s a great recipe!! I put it in the crockpot for the 2 hours, but one side came a little dark. That was ok cuz I li like dark bread when I toast it. But my husband dont. What did I do wrong or how can I make it so it browns even?
Pamela says
Hey Claudia, it sounds like your crockpot runs a little hotter on one side. I’d simply flip it around halfway, so it browns evenly. Thanks for commenting!
Dee says
Definitely had my doubts… But this was amazing!! I added 5 mins to the cooking time and added melted butter to the top and broiled for 2 mins. Perfection. THANK YOU. Literally trying not to eat entire loaf!!
Pamela says
Hey Dee, I’m so happy to hear you liked this bread recipe! Thanks for commenting! 🙂
Susan says
Can it be cooked in my instant pot
Pamela says
Yes, it can be. I’ll be posting the Instant Pot version soon – please sign up for my newsletter to get notified.
Kristin says
Hi! I searched your site and didn’t see this instant pot recipe. Did I miss it?
Pamela says
Hey Kristin, apologies, it’s still coming soon! 🙂
Barb says
Unbelieveable!! I am amazed with the ease and flavor of this loaf of bread! Wasnt too sure it was going to work out but…looks exactly like yours once baked and tastes delicious. Repeat for sure. Thanks
Brenda B says
Great recipe! I just made my first ever bread in my Instant Pot using the slow cooker mode. After two hours I had to cook it an additional 15-20 minutes because it did not look or feel done. I then put it under the broiler to brown. The taste is amazing!
There is some discussion on face book about the Instant Pot slow cooker mode not heating up as well as a crock pot. I will make it again using a real crock pot and see if there is a noticeable difference.
Pamela says
Hey Brenda, I’m so happy you liked this Crockpot Bread. Thank you for commenting and letting me know you made it! 🙂
Wendy W says
I can’t find a slow cooker where the manufacturer does not say to NOT use the cooker without liquid. I would really like to use this method. What brand, model, and size of slow cooker are you using?
Thanks
Brina K Chriss says
Would this work with quick rise yeast?
Paulette says
Hi. Just made the bread. Looks great. Was wondering if you could use bread flour instead of regular flour. And after 2 hours mine didn’t really look brown on top. How do I know if it’s done inside? Thanks
Paulette
Pamela says
Hey Paulette, I have not made this with 100% bread flour, but I have mixed all purpose + bread flour and it turned out perfectly – so I think it’ll work! If you want a browned top, remove from slow cooker and brush a little bit of butter on top. Place under broiler for about 1 minute until slightly brown. Keep a eye on it and make sure it does not burn! Broiling is not a necessary step but I recommend it to get the top crispy and brown! I also have a Crockpot Whole Wheat Bread recipe if you want to check it out: https://brooklynfarmgirl.com/whole-wheat-slow-cooker-bread/
Jackie says
I just made it. Do you allow time to cool after its cooked? If so for how long?
Pamela says
You don’t need to allow it to cool, most often I’m so excited, I slice in immediately for a warm piece of bread with some butter and jam. Enjoy!
