Homemade Wasabi Popcorn Recipe

Popcorn is one of my family’s favorite snacks. It doesn’t matter what time of the day it is – it’s always popcorn time. Popcorn is a staple for movie watching, but also perfect for a nighttime bed reading snack. I mean sure sometimes you’ll drop a couple pieces in bed, but don’t worry, you’ll find them eventually! 🙂

This Wasabi Popcorn is the perfect blend of spicy and buttery sweet, it reminds me of a savory kettle corn. It’s not overpowering with the wasabi, so you don’t have to worry about burning your tongue off while snacking on it.

Ingredients

Here’s everything you need to make this popcorn.

  • popped popcorn
  • butter
  • soy sauce
  • wasabi
  • salt
  • sugar

How to Make Wasabi Popcorn

You’ll need 8 cups popped popcorn. I use an air popper to pop our popcorn which is the most healthy option. Not to mention, so easy! Place the popcorn in a large bowl (how cute are these popcorn bowls?).

Next mix your butter, soy sauce and wasabi in a small bowl. The soy sauce gives it a little extra savory taste. When the wasabi is completely dissolved, pour over the popcorn.

A little note on the wasabi: I use prepared wasabi in the tube, but if you can only find wasabi powder you can just add water and make your own.

Finally, sprinkle salt and sugar on top. The sugar makes it taste like a savory kettle corn. Now sit on the couch and eat it all! 🙂

How to Store Leftover Popcorn

If you have any leftover popcorn store in an airtight glass or plastic container in a cool place, like your kitchen cabinet. Eat within 1-2 days to prevent popcorn from going soggy.

Enjoy this Wasabi Popcorn recipe!

Dude. I totally watched all of seasons 1-2 of Scandal in the last, um…week. While cooking, while emailing, while working out, just always. It is SO. ADDICTIVE. And I want all of her coats like crazy. I think that show totally subliminally influences you to eat more popcorn because I have been craving it lately. I am definitely going to give your delicious recipe a shot!

That sounds like a great show, but I don’t think it’s on in Spain hmm… I’ll have to do some research, because it sounds nice. Especially if it promotes having popcorn for dinner. Now, that’s a cool idea! I love how these popcorn look, how tasty!
    Happy New Year! xx

We’ve been making a lot of popcorn in the microwave lately. Just put a third of a cup in a brown bag, staple it with one or two staples (no, you won’t blow up your microwave! Just don’t let the staples touch the wall of the microwave) and nuke for 2 minutes or so. But I haven’t made popcorn with wasabi soy sauce! I gotta! Thanks. And Happy New Year!

As I type this I am watching Scandal and have two episodes left in season 2. I’m going to spend the month of January getting caught up on season 3 before the new episodes start. I love everything about it, so many good characters. And why not have popcorn for dinner?

LOVE this popcorn recipe, Pamela! Since going dairy-free due to allergies, I now melt coconut oil with butter-flavored palm shortening to drizzle on top of air-popped popcorn. Can’t wait to try your recipe. Maybe even later tonight! Thanks for sharing, girl. Warmest wishes to you and yours for a happy and healthy New Year! xo

Ok, now I have to start watching Scandal! I started episode 1 a while back, and they were talking so fast about “smart” stuff I decided to watch a girly movie that night. Must have been feeling lazy, ha! But you’ve sold me. If you’re looking for another great show to get in to, I was obsessed with The Killing. All 3 seasons are on Netflix. Loved it! This popcorn looks delicious too. Happy New Year!

    Happy New Year!
