How to Get Rid of a Sore Throat Quickly

I recently had a painful sore throat, it was the worst sore throat I’ve ever had (thanks to my kids for always sharing whatever they get with Mom!). I went to the drug store and bought everything I could, including liquid medicine and lozenges, but nothing helped, in fact these seemed to irritate it even more.

For a couple of days I was in serious pain, not being able to sleep, drinking and eating only warm liquids, and clapping to my family to “talk” because I lost my voice. The only thing that made me feel better was warm liquid, just pure warm water with a little bit of honey added in. After reading about how the addition of lemon juice can help a sore throat, I added it in and was shocked by how quick my sore throat cleared up!

This tea provided me such sore throat relief that I’ll be using it forever for my family! Make sure to save this for your next sore throat! (Note: please talk to your pediatrician if your young kids are sick as kids under 12 months old cannot have honey!).

How to Make Sore Throat Tea

All you need for this tea is water, honey and lemon juice. It’s not even really a “tea” since there’s no… well, tea, but it’s more of a soothing warm liquid.

Heat up water in either a kettle or in the microwave and place in a cup.

hot water being poured into cup.

Add honey and lemon juice into the cup. You want to make sure you’re using pure honey – not honey mixed with other ingredients which will rub your throat. Mix it until the honey is fully combined with the water.

Sip warm and continue until it’s all gone. After 1 cup, your throat should feel some relief already!

How often should I drink tea to treat my sore throat?

Drink this tea 2-3 times in 24 hours and your sore throat will feel so much better soon! Leave a couple of hours in between each cup.

Foods to Eat with Sore Throat

Here’s some other food ideas to eat with a sore throat.

Chicken Noodle Soup (homemade)
