Storing Leftover Salsa Verde

You can store your leftover green sauce in an airtight container and place in the refrigerator for up to five days. After five days, it’s best to throw it out because it will no longer be fresh and will spoil shortly after. Pair with a quick quesadilla, a plate of eggs for breakfast, or whatever you prefer!

What To Pair With Tomatillo Salsa Verde

As mentioned above there are plenty of items to pair with your tomatillo salsa verde. Here are just a few ideas to help you use up your leftovers. If you have any other suggestions, I’d love to hear about them in the comments below!

Breakfast: Eggs, omelets, egg sandwiches, huevos rancheros, chilaquiles

Lunch: Quesadillas, tostadas, taquitos

Dinner: Enchiladas verde, tacos, burritos, taco soup, chicken and rice

Snack and sides: Tortilla chips, refried beans

Tomatillo Salsa Verde FAQ

What is tomatillo?

Green tomatillos are a small, round fruit with papery husks on its outside. Some might say they look like small green tomatoes. Tomatillos are actually distant cousins of tomatoes. They are often used in Mexican cuisine because they are native to Mexico—so if you can’t find them at your local grocery stores, check a local specialty store.

How to husk tomatillos?

Tomatillos consist of papery husks that need to be removed. Ensure you purchase firm tomatillos with brown husks. These are best to cook with. Place tomatillos in warm water so the husk is easier to peel. You can also

How do I can this Tomatillo Salsa Verde

Plan to make a big batch and want to can your green salsa verde for future use? Use one cup of vinegar instead of one cup of water to can this salsa verde! You’ll need to know how when friends and family are asking you for this tomatillo salsa verde recipe. Send them home with their own can!

Should salsa verde be served hot or cold?

You can serve it either way; it’s about your personal preference. If you pour your previously cold salsa verde over a hot dish like a plate of enchiladas, the salsa will likely warm to its touch. You can serve it at room temperature but it’s recommended not to leave your salsa sitting out for more than two hours.
