It’s easy to make homemade white bread in the bread machine. This recipe makes a soft and fluffy loaf, perfect for sandwiches and toast!
White Bread Recipe for Bread Machine
What’s not to love about homemade bread? Especially when you cut into it when it’s still warm and put a little butter on top – OH LA LA, perfection!
I’ve been making lots of bread in my kitchen during the past few months (my favorites are Italian Bread, Dinner Rolls, Ciabatta Bread and Sweet Hawaiian Rolls) but I realized I never shared my most traditional, basic bread recipe. This recipe makes a fluffy loaf of homemade white bread in just a few hours using your bread machine.
How to Make Soft White Bread
For this recipe you’ll need warm water, warm milk, all purpose flour, sugar, salt, melted butter and active dry yeast. You’re going to be surprised that this isn’t made with bread flour considering how soft and yummy it ends up!
Add the ingredients into your bread machine baking pan depending on the order your bread machine manufacturer recommends. I listed them in the order that I add mine to the baking pan which is pretty standard, but please double check with your bread machine manual first!
Select WHITE bread on your bread machine and then press START. Now sit back and let your bread machine do the work! My bread machine takes about 3 hours to make a loaf of bread, from start to finish.
Now my favorite part, time to cut the first slice of bread! Look at how fluffy this bread is! This bread makes perfect sandwich bread, and delicious toast that I like to add strawberry jam and butter to for breakfast!
How to Store Homemade Bread
Store bread in a bread box, or wrapped up on the counter for 3-4 days. You can also freeze this bread for 4 months. I like to wrap in aluminum foil and then place in a freezer bag to prevent any freezer burn to the bread.
I hope you enjoy this Bread Machine White Bread recipe!

I had to review this. I have made a lot of bread machine breads, but I made this yesterday and was knocked out at house, soft and tender and wonderful. It was as soon as it came out of the machine. I put butter all over it and the rest is history. This is a wonderful recipe. Thank you for sharing, I canโt wait to make it again this afternoon lol

Just made this but used bread flour. For some reason half of my loaf didn’t rise as well. I have probably made a mistake somewhere. Cannot wait until it has cooled down so I can get into it, SMELLS AMAZING!! Has anyone else done this as a 1 1/2 loaf and worked out the ratios of the measurements because I cannot get my brain to do the math for it HAHA!
Pamela Reed says
Hope you enjoy the bread Amy! The recipe card has a servings option that you can tap to change and it will do the math for you – hope that helps!
Lorraine Chaboyer says
Hi, I always use 1.5 loaf and it turns out great!

It tastes amazing but my loaf didnโt rise well. I used rapid yeast. Should I use the normal kind?

Why do you not put the size loaf each recipes make. Please don’t leave this important information out.

Susan A Fowler says
Could you please elaborate on the warm milk and water. What temperature is the best? Did you warm the milk on the stove? Thank you so much!
Pamela says
Hey Susan, I don’t use a thermometer for an exact temperature, but I usually warm milk and water in the microwave (about 20-30 seconds), it should feel warm to the touch – it shouldn’t burn you. Hope this helps!
