Easy to make 2 HOUR Crockpot Bread recipe. Throw it in the crock pot and you will have soft homemade bread in 2 hours! This is the best bread to serve with creamy soups and casseroles.

Crockpot Bread Recipe
I haven’t been this excited to share a recipe in a long time — this Crockpot Bread is that good. It’s incredibly easy to make, deliciously addictive, and I’ve already made it twice this week (with no signs of stopping!).
The loaf comes out soft and fluffy on the inside, with a beautifully crusty top that makes each slice feel bakery-quality. It’s one of those game-changing recipes that feels almost too easy for how impressive it tastes — I can’t wait for you to try it!
I love how versatile slow cooker bread can be. Whether you’re trying this classic loaf, my Slow Cooker Whole Wheat Bread for a heartier option, or even going the tangy route with Sourdough Crockpot Bread, you’re going to be amazed by what your crockpot can do. And if you’re feeling extra adventurous, try your hand at Slow Cooker Bagels — yes, you can make bagels in a crockpot too!

How to Bake Bread in the Crockpot
Pour warm water into a large bowl. Add sugar and mix until dissolved. Add dry yeast and stir. Let sit for about 10 minutes until foamy. I always find it helps to sit it in a warm spot.
Add salt to bowl and stir to dissolve. Add vegetable oil. Add flour and mix with hands until everything is combined. Knead the dough for 5 minutes and form into a round ball.
Place dough in olive oil coated bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Sit in a warm spot for 30 minutes to rise, doubling in size. Here’s a before and after so you can see how it rises.

Cut a piece of parchment paper that is the size of your slow cooker bottom and about 2 inches up the side. It’s important that you go up the sides as your dough will expand (it’s turning into bread!) and you don’t want it to stick to the side of the slow cooker. Additionally, I like to spray the parchment paper with nonstick spray. Place your dough into slow cooker. I like to sprinkle rosemary on top too.

Cook on HIGH for 2 hours. Remove from slow cooker and brush a little bit of butter on top.

From there you can serve as is, or if you like more of a crusty bread, you can broil the top of the bread. To do this, slightly butter the top of the bread and stick it in your oven under the broiler (or toaster oven on broil) for about 1 minute. Watch your bread like a hawk while you broil as it can burn very quickly. Mine usually takes about 1 minute. Now look at this crusty top!

I love not only how easy this 2 Hour Slow Cooker Bread but also how it tastes. It’s soft, moist and delicious!

I’ve really fallen in love with this bread recipe and it will be a weekly staple in my kitchen. This afternoon Matthew was making lasagna for dinner and requested that I make this bread to go along with it. Whenever you need some fresh bread, don’t stress out and take hours making it, try this recipe!
I hope you enjoy my Crockpot bread recipe!

2 HOUR Crockpot Bread
PrintIngredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- rosemary optional
Instructions
- Pour warm water into a large bowl. Add sugar and mix until dissolved. Add dry yeast and stir. Let sit for about 10 minutes until foamy. I always find it helps to sit it in a warm spot.
- Add salt to bowl and stir to dissolve. Add vegetable oil.
- Add flour and mix with hands until everything is combined. Knead the dough for 5 minutes and form into a round ball.
- Place dough in olive oil coated bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Sit in a warm spot for 30 minutes to rise, doubling in size.
- Cut a piece of parchment paper and place in bottom of slow cooker. Make sure the parchment paper comes up the bottom of the sides of the slow cooker so when the bread expands it won’t stick to the sides. Additionally, I like to spray the parchment paper with nonstick spray.
- Place your dough into slow cooker. Sprinkle with rosemary.
- Cook on HIGH for 2 hours.
- Remove from slow cooker and brush a little bit of butter on top. Place under broiler for about 1 minute until slightly brown. Keep a eye on it and make sure it does not burn! Broiling is not a necessary step but I recommend it to get the top crispy!

Can you put tinfoil in the crockpot as a liner?
Pamela says
Yes, you can. Just make sure to spray the foil so the bread doesn’t stick to it. Enjoy the recipe!
Margaret Presho says
Had to abandon the first attempt as a cup of water made the dough too soft and floppy but second attempt using 1/2 cup was great. I added Rosemary and Oregano. Maybe if I made it again, I would use a little less sugar but thankyou for the recipe.

Just made this bread – perfection!! Thank you so much for the posting.

Could you use a Crockpot Liner?
Pamela says
You sure can!

I am making this now. I let it sit for half an hour but it doesn’t look like it rose too much. I hope it works!
Lady says
It usually takes at least an hour to double in size. I hope it worked out well for you! I’m excited to try this recipe myself as I do not have an oven…
Of Goats and Greens says
Awesome. I’d never considered that one can make bread in the slow cooker. This looks flavorful (rosemary!) and soft, yet with a nice crust. Thanks for sharing this over at Fiesta Friday!!
Cathy Lawdanski says
I had no idea you could make bread in the slow cooker! I’m trying this!
Judith Graber says
A slow cooker works great for “baking” bread. I have two recipes; a lemon and poppy seed and a caraway-sauerkraut beer bread on my blog. I use a foil collar and also foil on the bottom which I have sprayed with non-stick spray. They turned out beautifully just like yours did. I will be anxious to try your recipe and add a third to my collection.

Hi Pam,
Wow I pinned this. I was wondering if this was for a 4 or 6 quart slow cooker? Also wondering if I can double it for potlucks.
Pamela says
Hey Merry, I usually use my 6 quart slow cooker for this recipe as the bread expands a good bit. If you only have a 4 I think you could still manage, it would just be a tight fit. Enjoy the bread!
Merry Reisch says
Thanks Pam, I have a 6 at cooker too. 👌

Dang, what a great idea!! And so fast!! Love it. And the bread looks incredible.

I wonder if a gluten free bread recipe would work like this. Most are like a batter. I was thinking of using a pan that would fit in the crackpot. If I try it I will let you know how it works out. Love this idea!
Rebecca Smith says
I was just wondering the same…a moist gluten free bread sounds awesome xxx
Sue McKnight says
Hi, Pam… this looks delish. My crockpot gets really, really hot on high. I know they might all be different. Am wondering if you ever made this with the heat setting on medium & if it just took longer to finish baking? In mine, I’m afraid of the high setting, I think 🤔. I make my own bread always through the winter, using a bread machine to do the mixing & the first raising. Then take it out, form into whatever kind of loaf I want, raise dough again, then bake in my oven. The bread machine makes the mixing, etc. easy, but it is still a long, drawn-out process. This looks soooo easy.
Pamela says
Hey Sue, I only have “low” or “high” on my slow cooker. If you think your high runs hotter than usual, you could try medium and bump up the time until you see your bottom and sides of the bread is browned. I hope you give it a shot – let me know!
Dianna says
If you are concerned that the high temp is too high and used the medium temp, how do you know when it is done?
Also, I do not see where you answered one query concerning cooking in the crockpot without any kind of liquid. I know my crockpot carries that recommendation as does the InstaPot. Has anyone experienced damage to their crockpot/InstaPot cooking the bread in it without liquid?
Pamela says
Hi Dianna, cook until you see your bottom and sides of the bread are browned, and inside is thoroughly baked. Regarding your other question, you can go through the many comments and reviews here to see that people love this recipe as is, but that’s up to you if you want to try it or not with your crockpot.
Brooklyn says
I’m making tonight so excited!
Pamela says
I’m excited that you’re excited! Enjoy the bread!
Judy Wilson says
Hi Pamela,
Do you think I could just let it rise in the crock pot and cook it from there when it rises?
Pamela says
Hey Judy, I usually let mine rise in a bowl, but I don’t see why you couldn’t let it rise in the crock pot itself. Enjoy!
