What to do with leftover evaporated milk?

We’ve all been there. You buy a big can of evaporated milk, only to find out that you only need 5 ounces. I made my Crockpot Mac and Cheese a few days ago and ran into this problem so I thought I’d share how I freeze evaporated milk!

It’s super easy to freeze – all you need is a freezer bag! At the bottom of this post I’ll show you a picture of frozen evaporated milk after a couple months!

Can I freeze evaporated milk?

Yes, you can freeze evaporated milk so it doesn’t go to waste. By freezing it, you’re going to be saving money as you can easily use it again for recipes, preventing you from having to buy another can.

How long is frozen evaporated milk good for?

Frozen evaporated milk is best used within 3-4 months.

1 cup evaporated milk in measuring cup.

Step by Step: How to freeze evaporated milk

Place evaporated milk in a freezer bag, thinking about how much you use. I usually use 1/2 cup or 1 cup, so I will add this amount to each freezer bag.

Label the bag with the amount and date. Freeze and then use within 3 months.

For smaller amounts, you can also add to ice cube trays and freeze. Once frozen, take the cubes out and place in one large freezer bag. Make sure to date this too.

How to defrost frozen milk

When ready to use it, simply defrost it in the microwave and then use as have planned. The milk might look a little separated, but it’s perfectly fine to use in soups, creamy dishes, baking and more.
