Create a fun and reusable Advent calendar with leftover Halloween candy! Simply place the candy into small bags for each day, and enjoy the sweet surprise every night leading up to Christmas. It’s a festive and clever way to make use of extra Halloween treats!

DIY Halloween Candy Advent Calendar

Hi, I’m Pamela and leftover Halloween candy drives me crazy! It just sits there in bowls in my kitchen while my kids circle it every night. Needing my mixing bowls back, I came up with this creative way to repurpose leftover Halloween candy that your kids will love!

Using simple burlap bags, you can create a festive and reusable countdown to Christmas. Each bag holds pieces of leftover Halloween candy – perfect for families with multiple children. We have 3 kids, so I place 3 pieces of candy in each bag. It’s a fun and sustainable way to make the most of Halloween treats.

This idea has been a game-changer for us – my kids LOVE it! Each night, the kids open one bag and enjoy one piece of candy each, making the countdown to Christmas extra special. The burlap bags add a charming vibe to our holiday decor, and the excitement of a daily surprise makes it even more magical. This quick and easy project is perfect for even the busiest parents (December is wild y’all) who want to bring some extra joy to the season.

Supplies You’ll Need for a Reusable Candy Advent Calendar

  1. Burlap Bags – I found mine on Etsy! They’re sturdy, reusable and cute with vinyl numbers already printed on them. Tip: While paper envelopes are another cute option, cloth bags are more sustainable since you can reuse them year after year!
  2. Twine – Perfect for stringing up your bags in a festive way. Use natural or colored twine to match your holiday decor.
  3. Mini Clothespins – The clothespins hold the bags securely to the twine and add a cute, decorative touch.
  4. Leftover Halloween Candy – as many as you want.
  5. Number Tags or Stickers (Optional) – Label each bag with the day.

How to Make a Advent Calendar with Halloween Candy

Fill the bags up with candy, number of pieces is up to you. Close the bags so nobody can peek!

Cut a length of twine long enough to hang all the bags. Find a space in your home where you can hang the calendar, such as a wall, fireplace mantel, or across a window.

Use mini clothespins to clip each bag to the twine. Arrange them in order by date, or mix them up if you want to seek the number!

Starting December 1, let your kids open one bag each night. The excitement of discovering their daily treat makes the countdown to Christmas extra special!

Bonus Tip: After your kids open each bag, either clip the empty bag back onto the twine or collect it right away. This helps prevent the bags from getting lost—because with kids, things tend to disappear quickly! Staying organized will make it even easier to reuse the bags next year.

Happy holidays everybody!
