Crockpot Bread Recipe

I haven’t been this excited to share a recipe in a long time — this Crockpot Bread is that good. It’s incredibly easy to make, deliciously addictive, and I’ve already made it twice this week (with no signs of stopping!).

The loaf comes out soft and fluffy on the inside, with a beautifully crusty top that makes each slice feel bakery-quality. It’s one of those game-changing recipes that feels almost too easy for how impressive it tastes — I can’t wait for you to try it!

I love how versatile slow cooker bread can be. Whether you’re trying this classic loaf, my Slow Cooker Whole Wheat Bread for a heartier option, or even going the tangy route with Sourdough Crockpot Bread, you’re going to be amazed by what your crockpot can do. And if you’re feeling extra adventurous, try your hand at Slow Cooker Bagels — yes, you can make bagels in a crockpot too!

How to Bake Bread in the Crockpot

Pour warm water into a large bowl. Add sugar and mix until dissolved. Add dry yeast and stir. Let sit for about 10 minutes until foamy. I always find it helps to sit it in a warm spot.

Add salt to bowl and stir to dissolve. Add vegetable oil. Add flour and mix with hands until everything is combined. Knead the dough for 5 minutes and form into a round ball.

Place dough in olive oil coated bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Sit in a warm spot for 30 minutes to rise, doubling in size.  Here’s a before and after so you can see how it rises.

Cut a piece of parchment paper that is the size of your slow cooker bottom and about 2 inches up the side.  It’s important that you go up the sides as your dough will expand (it’s turning into bread!) and you don’t want it to stick to the side of the slow cooker. Additionally, I like to spray the parchment paper with nonstick spray.  Place your dough into slow cooker.  I like to sprinkle rosemary on top too.

Cook on HIGH for 2 hours. Remove from slow cooker and brush a little bit of butter on top.

From there you can serve as is, or if you like more of a crusty bread, you can broil the top of the bread.  To do this, slightly butter the top of the bread and stick it in your oven under the broiler (or toaster oven on broil) for about 1 minute.  Watch your bread like a hawk while you broil as it can burn very quickly.  Mine usually takes about 1 minute.   Now look at this crusty top!

I love not only how easy this 2 Hour Slow Cooker Bread but also how it tastes.  It’s soft, moist and delicious!

I’ve really fallen in love with this bread recipe and it will be a weekly staple in my kitchen.   This afternoon Matthew was making lasagna for dinner and requested that I make this bread to go along with it.   Whenever you need some fresh bread, don’t stress out and take hours making it, try this recipe!

I hope you enjoy my Crockpot bread recipe!

Prep Time: 45 minutes minutes
Cook Time: 2 hours hours
serves 10

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • rosemary optional

Instructions

  • Pour warm water into a large bowl.  Add sugar and mix until dissolved.  Add dry yeast and stir.  Let sit for about 10 minutes until foamy.  I always find it helps to sit it in a warm spot.
  • Add salt to bowl and stir to dissolve.  Add vegetable oil.
  • Add flour and mix with hands until everything is combined.  Knead the dough for 5 minutes and form into a round ball.
  • Place dough in olive oil coated bowl and cover with plastic wrap.  Sit in a warm spot for 30 minutes to rise, doubling in size.
  • Cut a piece of parchment paper and place in bottom of slow cooker.  Make sure the parchment paper comes up the bottom of the sides of the slow cooker so when the bread expands it won’t stick to the sides.  Additionally, I like to spray the parchment paper with nonstick spray.
  • Place your dough into slow cooker.  Sprinkle with rosemary.
  • Cook on HIGH for 2 hours.
  • Remove from slow cooker and brush a little bit of butter on top.  Place under broiler for about 1 minute until slightly brown.  Keep a eye on it and make sure it does not burn!  Broiling is not a necessary step but I recommend it to get the top crispy!
