In a large bowl mix together ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, onion powder, garlic powder and pepper. Form into 7 even sized balls and then flatten into steak patties.
Add vegetable oil into a large skillet over medium high heat. Add patties, along with slices of onions. Fry until patties are browned on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side. Once cooked, transfer patties to a plate.
Sprinkle flour over the onions in the skillet (if there’s any drippings left in the skillet - keep them there!). Using a spatula, scrape up any beef bits that have stuck to the skillet. Add in beef broth and vanilla, bringing to a light simmer. Continue to stir until broth thickens, about 5 minutes.
Add beef steaks back into the skillet, scooping gravy to coat them. Cover the skillet and simmer until the patties are fully cooked, about 15-20 minutes, flipping them halfway to prevent sticking.
