Start your morning with these soft and buttery chocolate chip scones, packed with rich chocolate chips and a tender, flaky texture. Made with sour cream for extra moisture, these homemade scones are so much better than store-bought—perfect for breakfast, brunch, or an afternoon treat. Serve them warm with a cup of coffee or tea, and enjoy bakery-style scones right from your own kitchen!
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray 2 baking sheets with nonstick spray or stick down a silicone baking mat.
In a small mixing bowl blend together the sour cream and baking soda with an electric hand mixer.
In a large mixing bowl mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt with a spoon. Using a box or hand grater, grate the frozen butter into the dough.
Add in the sour cream mixture, egg and vanilla into the large mixing bowl and continue to stir with a spoon until combined, careful not to over mix it.
Gently fold in the chocolate chips.
Place dough onto a floured surface and knead for 2 minutes. Separate the dough into 2 pieces and roll each into a ball.
Roll each piece of dough out into about a ¾-1 inch thick round circle and then cut into 8 scone triangles.
Place scones on baking sheet. Brush each scone lightly with milk and then generously sprinkle coarse sugar on top. Bake 13-15 minutes or until golden brown on the bottom.
Serve with clotted cream, jam, butter or as is! Enjoy!
