Crockpot Chicken Broth (HOMEMADE)

4 HOUR CROCKPOT CHICKEN BROTH

It's as simple as adding chicken, water, veggies and some spices into the crockpot, giving it a stir, and then coming back in a few hours for the best chicken broth you’ve ever tasted.

INGREDIENTS:

1. Chicken 2. Water 3. Celery 4. Carrots 5. Onion 6. Garlic 7. Parsley 8. Bay leaf 9. Peppercorns

WHAT PART OF THE CHICKEN?

Dark meat works best for chicken broth as it has richer flavor. Use thighs, legs, and wings.  Bonus, dark meat is usually cheaper too!

HOW TO MAKE

1. Place chicken and water in the slow cooker.

HOW TO MAKE

2. Add all the veggies and spices in and give it a stir to mix. It’s beautiful right?

TIP!

Don’t peel the onion! Keeping the skin on the onion is going to make the broth a golden yellow honey color!

HOW TO MAKE

3. Cook on LOW or HIGH depending on how much time you have. This is how it looks after 4 hours on HIGH.

HOW TO MAKE

4. Strain the chicken, vegetables and spices so you’re left with a smooth broth. I do this by putting a strainer over a large soup pot.

WHAT TO DO WITH THE CHICKEN?

If you’re using it right away, simply remove the chicken from the bones, shred and use as needed. Same goes for the veggies in the soup, use those too!

HOW TO FREEZE THE CHICKEN

Remove the chicken from the bones, shred it and then bag it in freezer bags.

HOW TO STORE THE BROTH

You can store the chicken broth in the refrigerator in a mason jar for a few days or use a pressure canner but my preferred method is to freeze it flat in freezer bags.
