Each vanilla sugar cookie is decorated with red and green icing and then holiday sprinkles are added on top.  They look just like Christmas donuts but in cookie form.   These cookies make a major WOW factor when decorated and they’re surprisingly simple to make.  I admit I’m not very good at decorating cookies, so I was pleasantly surprised by how great these turned out!

GET THE RECIPE

Make cookie dough, mixing until smooth. Cover and let chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. Roll dough into balls, and then roll the balls into ropes.  Shape the dough into circles. Bake cookies until golden brown. Mix ingredients for icing, and then dip each cookie in. Add sprinkles on top and let set.

how to make

Cookie help: Roll the balls into ropes, about 4 inches long and 1/2 inch in diameter. Shape the dough into circles, connecting the 2 ends with a gentle push. There should be a small hole remaining in the middle of the dough to make them resemble a donut.

Sugar Cookie Icing: This is a simple sugar cooking icing, that I mixed with red and green food coloring.  You can use other colors to make them more rainbow if you'd like.

Can I let the dough chill overnight? Yes, you can! Chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour, but you can also chill overnight if you want to bake the next day.

I hope you like these cute little Christmas sugar cookies!
