No Butter Fluffy Waffles recipe calls for applesauce instead of butter making this a healthy breakfast meal! I love these homemade waffles because they’re so easy to make and so fluffy!
There’s something about Saturday morning that makes everyone want a home cooked breakfast. For many it’s the time to relax with the family and take a breather from the work week. As a little girl I always looked forward to Saturday morning breakfast, usually shared with a girlfriend of mine that would sleep over on Friday night.
As soon as we woke up, we would head downstairs to watch Saturday morning cartoons and wait for Mom to bring in delicious smelling breakfast! Sometimes it would be cinnamon rolls, sometimes it would be blueberry pancakes and sometimes it would be the fluffy waffles!
With a craving for waffles I wanted to relive my childhood Saturday mornings so I made these No Butter Needed Fluffy Waffles! I I love “No butter” recipes because how many times have you wanted to make a recipe and went to grab the butter to find out you were either all out or only had a tablespoon left? It’s happened to me too many times!
Ingredients
Here’s the ingredients you need for these waffles:
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/3 cup applesauce
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Can I make them vegan?
If you want to go that extra step and make these into vegan waffles, you absolutely can. Just substitute almond milk for the milk, and substitute flax eggs for the eggs.
I love these waffles because they are extra fluffy! Trust me, you will not miss the butter at all for these! Whenever I make these No Butter Needed Fluffy Waffles I always make a double batch, one to enjoy right away, and one to freeze for later!
Hope you enjoy this waffle recipe without butter! Make sure to serve with maple syrup!

My waffles turned out good, except the after taste was bitter and strong.. ifollowed it to a T. ?
Pamela Reed says
Hey Murrell, if it had a bitter after-taste I would look at the waffle iron (what it’s made out of – including how it’s coated), as well as making sure the baking powder isn’t expired. I’ve never had bitter tasting waffles from this recipe – hope this helps!
Andrea says
Why does the milk need to be warm?
Pamela says
Warm milk prevents the batter from becoming lumpy, giving the waffles a light fluffy texture.

Made this today as I was out of waffle mix. Other recipes called for loads of butter and I wanted a recipe without. I used almond milk instead of regular milk and my husband and 3 boys loved them. Good easy recipe!

This is a FANTASTIC recipe! We are trying to cut back on our butter usage (watching that ol’ cholesterol!) and have tried a bunch of low butter/oil recipes and they were okay. We tried this and instantly agreed that this would be our new waffle recipe staple. It tastes like the real thing without all of the butter or oil. Thank you so much for coming up with this recipe! Next time we make this batter, we’re trying it on pancakes! So excited! 🙂

This is a fantastic recipe. We have enjoyed it as waffles and as pancakes! We’ve made these several times already this week since discovering this recipe! I love how simple it is, how fast it comes together, and how perfectly sweet and fluffy they are. Great job.

Thank you so much for commenting Gaylin, I’m happy to hear you have been enjoying these waffles (and as pancakes!)!

I love waffles. My Mom often cooked the full meal deal type breakfast, but pancakes were her thing. Probably because of timing of course. Anyway ever since I was a girl I think of waffles as special.
These really really do look amazingly fluffy. I printed the recipe out to give it a try. It’s cool being an adult, because you can have waffles whenever you want them!!!!!
