Eating Apples and Carrots with Enceladus

Posted:12/27/17
Updated:12/27/17

Change your shirt, put towels on the floor, wear a poncho – things are about to get messy. Enceladus started eating solids! This post is in partnership with buybuy BABY.

At our 4 month pediatrician visit, we got the go ahead to start solids when we were feeling ready for it, so at 5 months we decided to give it a try.  After months of watching her Mom and Dad eat, Enceladus must have been practicing in her head, because on the first spoonful she reached out her hand, grabbed the spoon and shoved the pureed fruits into her mouth!  Success!

(We use the Fisher-Price Deluxe Booster Seat because it attaches to a chair and saves room in our apartment!)

Eventually I plan on making her own food but the pediatrician recommended buying baby food in the beginning so I could see the consistency.  Plus this way, we can learn what she likes and doesn’t like before spending a lot of time steaming vegetables!  So far her favorites are apples and pears.  Her least favorite is carrots and peas – you should have seen the look on her face after her first carrot taste!
(Bibs! So many bibs! I love these Skip Hop bibs because they’re easy to clean!)

As if garden season doesn’t excite me enough already, next year I’m thrilled to be able to grow the vegetables she likes and that we’re going to be able to eat together!  I think we might have to add sweet potatoes to the list because she fancies them…!

Matthew and I have different feeding styles, he’s much more cleaner than me, while I let Enceladus go a little wild! I think learning to handle the spoon will benefit her early, so I let her assist me in feeding her!   Thankfully it’s bath time immediately after eating!

Right now formula feeding is still her main food source, but it’s exciting to get to watch her try new fruits and vegetables for the first time.  It won’t be long until I have to share a bite of my carrot cake with her!

(We use her Bumbo seat for eating on the road!  Here she is in her Grandfather’s kitchen getting ready for dinner (with her bath time buddies)!)

Awwww, such cute photos! I remember those early solid food days even though it was many years ago. Enjoy every minute and happy new year!

And, now the real fun begins… in technicolor… green& orange & red (beets!). And a demonstration of a contest of wills! It’s always been an amazement to me that anyone so little can be so “in charge” of what they will & will NOT eat. And how the “will nots” can come flying out of those cute lips at record speed, decorating the mother or the father, the walls, the floor… and, perhaps an occasional cat. Keep your camera handy… someday you can make a little pictorial gift album to present to her at HER baby shower, when you both will becoming grandparents!💕
