You usually don’t hear from me during the weekend as I spend these days running around happily in the garden but I wanted to introduce you to my new favorite photo craft store in NYC. If you live nearby or will be visiting NYC, you must stop by! You’ll probably see me there because I’m officially making all my holiday gifts here – better start now!
Isn’t the shop beautiful? Can I move into this photo craft heaven? Read More
Sniffle Sniffle. Sneeze. Please don’t be alarmed, you can stay in this thread. I won’t get you sick. I promise. Well I can’t promise, but I shouldn’t get you sick. I mean there are screens between us, that will protect you, right? You might have read in last week’s post I was feeling a cold coming on. A few days later and I thought I was feeling better, I was able to eat a entire bowl of soup! And then suddenly on Saturday I started to feel it again. The sniffles were in high gear and both my ears started hurting. The one hurts so bad that it sometimes wakes me up in the middle of the night. It’s quite a bummer. So want to have some tea with me to discuss how much you hate Fall time colds? There’s a few reasons why colds aren’t cool. Read More
Well today you are! So bring your Superhero powers and grab a piece of my M&M’s Deluxe Cookie Pie!
I love how fun parties are so I thought to throw a Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier party. Not only is there a crumbly pie waiting for you but you’ll also be equipped with a shied and helmet! The helmet doesn’t cover the mouth though which is great for eating a big piece of this M&M pie. Superheroes have priorities, you know?
Have you guys tried Green Mountain Gringo Salsa? It’s delicious and is all-natural made in Winston-Salem North Carolina. It’s gluten-free vegetarian salsa is made of only all natural ingredients, meaning no additives or non-natural preservatives.
Their slogan “Just what it needs and nothing it doesn’t” is a pretty great way to approach recipes, especially when it comes to fresh bowls of salsa. Their ingredients include hand-picked vegetables, hebs and spices – everything it needs. How do you think it should be served? Over Green Mountain Gringo’s all-natural non-GMO tortilla strips of course! Wouldn’t this make a great snack or a appetizer for taco night?
Yummy snacks and gardening – those go together great, right?
I mean ok maybe not gardening and eating yummy snacks at the same time, but then again, why not? A little melted Coconut & Milk Fruit Bar running down my hand is a blessing in disguise isn’t it? It’s nothing a little delicious lick can’t clean up. Real talk.
You guys know I love Brooklyn, right? I mean I really really really love Brooklyn. I couldn’t imagine myself anywhere besides Brooklyn (well perhaps I could imagine myself upstate on my own Cat Sanctuary/Farm but that’s another story for another time). You might think Brooklyn is a concrete jungle but it’s actually a beautiful place with some lush green parks and greenways perfect for a stress relieving wellness workout if you know where to look.
Take my hand and let’s checkout some of my favorite Brooklyn places for a great workout!
And make sure to read the entire post as I’m giving away a Fitbit (!!!)to one lucky winner below!
For me it’s late afternoon or right before bed. I’ve been known to bring a (big) handful of sour worms to bed with me. But surprisingly, a handful of neon sour worms coated in sugar isn’t always the best choice (shocking, I know!).
I’ve been introduced to Graze and I’m hooked so I had to share them with you! Graze.com is a subscription snack box service founded 5 years ago by 7 friends in the UK who got sick of the same old snacks and wanted a better way to snack. Launched in the USA in January and already has over 200K American subscribers, called “grazers.” I’ m a grazer!
Easy Aloe Vera Juice recipe made with mint and lime. Healthy and refreshing drink!
Aloe Vera Juice
When you think Aloe Vera what do you think of? Probably sunburn. As a kid my parents would slather Aloe Vera on me after every day at the beach on family vacation. As a adult Matthew slathers Aloe Vera on me after every long garden day. What can I say? I’m pale and burn.
I’m here to change your ideas of Aloe Vera though (but I’m not here to change your ideas of always covering up in the Sun!). Do you know you can drink Aloe Vera? Oh you bet you can and it’s totally delicious. I’ve recently come to love Aloe Vera drink juice, especially with a touch of lime and mint!
It’s one of my favorite refreshing drinks, especially in the hot Summer months!
It’s the perfect treat for a afternoon pick me up to have alongside some Hawaiian trail mix. Enjoy this Aloe Vera Juice recipe!
I heart my cats, they are a wild bunch that love me too, especially when I feed them. That’s why I was thrilled at the opportunity to try out Fancy Feast® Broths as a part of this sponsored post program. Now they love me even more!
Do you see us?
What is your in hand?
We know it’s food.
We saw you go in the food cabinet.
Mom, we know you see us.
Mom, we’re meowing. So now you can see us and hear us.
Can you put the food down already?
Come on Mom, stop tormenting us.
Give us the food already.
Ok, let us rub your ankles and purr.
See, we love you?
We also love soft food.
Hi everyone, I thought I’d take today to do a little post to show you where the blog takes place. You know, not in cyber space, but in reality. The place where I write the blog posts, take photos of recipes and pin brownies in my pajamas at 2AM because I can’t sleep. The last one is never a good idea, trust me.
I’m always interested in where other bloggers are inspired by. Are you writing your recipes as you cook on your laptop in the kitchen? Are you doing posts in bed late at night because there’s not enough hours in day? Or do you have a dedicated work area in your home?
We’ve had a separate studio space for our R+R work for over a year now and it was a great choice. We decided to get this space to try to separate work from life. I’m going to be honest and say it’s hard to separate life, love and work when your creative partner is also your husband. Lately I’ve been trying to set up a strong rule that we aren’t allowed to discuss work at home, we can’t work that late and we have to take off 1 day a week. I break all these rules as does Matthew (he’s worse I promise you).
None of these rules really come into effect with Brooklyn Farm Girl. As the blog continues to grow, I sometimes find myself overloaded with new posts, sponsored posts and reviews. Suddenly on top of my day job of being an artist, there’s blog deadlines and blog advertisers to please. It’s complicated and it’s long hours, but it’s also exciting and I’m a proud mama bear of BFG. Lately I’ve been trying to split my time in half – half at the studio, half at home with the blog. The problem here is that the blog is at home which means it’s always on. I really wish I could have a strict schedule and kick myself off the computer during the evening but I have no self will. Is anyone else work obsessed?
The title says it all. Are you a cereal addict? Please don’t be afraid to raise your hand.
I was out today and it sure was hot. By the time I got home I was sweaty, grumpy and muttering crazy things about Fall, pumpkins and apples. Then I had one thing on my mind, something guaranteed to change my mood immediately. Cereal. I dropped my bags at the front door, slid my shoes off, pet all the cats (cause I had to) and then grabbed a bowl out of the shelf. Then I opened another shelf, grabbed my favorite cereal of the moment and poured. Then I added some almond vanilla milk on top and sat on the floor, surrounded by cats, eating a bowl of cereal. I was cheered up within minutes. Cereal makes me feel awesome, like a super hero, like I can save the world with a bowl and spoon.
Lazy days will be gone soon replaced by Autumn days full of school events, sporting games and pumpkin baking. With the upcoming busy months I wanted to share some easy and quick food ideas to serve at parties.
Maybe you’re preparing for a end of Summer BBQ, or maybe you gearing up for NFL games, or maybe you’re like me and just need a good ol fashioned pizza night once a week to survive.
Here are some ideas that hopefully help you make most of your time through these busy days and nights.
Last week I spent a night in Italy surrounded by fresh flowers, produce stands with the most juicy fruits, plates full of delicious food for dinner and a jazz band playing softly in the background. I got to Italy by taking the L train a few stops.
Ok, so maybe it wasn’t the real Italy (one day!) but this was such a beautiful event that really made you feel like you were really there!
Annedroids is a Amazon Studios original kids series. The show is aimed at children ages 4-7 but it gets into lots of Science and technology that kids older than that would be into. Together they decide to keep making new discoveries with Science while growing up at the same time. The show is aimed to inspire kids to make and become part of that next Makers generation. The show is designed to develop creative thinking and problem solving in children.
This Jalapeno Peppered Chicken Marsala makes me dream of Fall weather. Big chunky sweaters, slippers on my feet, the smell of arriving cool air. Unfortunately I’m wearing as little as possible, nothing on my feet and the smell is of humidity. Summer is here in full force, but let’s turn on the air conditioner and pretend it’s Fall. Let’s dream…
We had this Jalapeno Peppered Chicken Marsala for dinner and it was a big hit. The Chicken is slathered in a savory gravy and then diced jalapeno peppers and onions are spread on top. This gives it a nice crunch and a very nice taste of freshness. It’s the perfect match to a Summer meets Fall meal.
Don’t you love that song? It will be stuck in your head the rest of the day I’m sure.
What’s your Summer look like? Do you go on vacation? Do you work all Summer? Do you swim in a pool? Do you do special family activities? Do you eat more popsicles? Do you barbecue more? Sorry for all the questions! My Summer pretty much looks like any other season, except that I complain about the heat more. We continue to work our usual hours and do the same job. Next week we’re headed to Seattle for a good friend’s wedding so that will be the closest thing to a vacation.
Are you a Summer loving person, or do you prefer Winter? In the Winter I always state I wish it was Summer and then when it’s Summer I cry about it. I think I can firmly say that I’m not a Summertime girl. Besides the lush garden, I think I would be ok with removing the Summer season. But then I do like popsicles and ice cream cones.. so it gets complicated. 😉
These Cheesy Jalapeno Sausage Dogs are quickly becoming a Summertime favorite here! We had them a few nights ago and we’re still discussing how good they were. In fact, I’m planning to grill up a few more for dinner tonight!
Who doesn’t love a grilled sausage, covered in cheese? Throw on some Mexican taste of salsa verde, jalapenos and onions and you got a Sausage Dog bursting full of flavor!
If you’re anything like me then you crave fruits during the day, especially in the Summer time. In the morning I prefer a banana or raspberries, in the afternoon I love some apples or blackberries and for dessert it’s all about cherries! Because I’m often on the go or am not working from home I always love a healthy snack that I can throw in my bag. Have you ever thrown a pint of raspberries in your bag, forgot about them, and then thrown a laptop on top of them? Ugh. Or don’t remind me about that banana I totally forgot about… weird things can happen to bananas that are forgotten. Trust me.
Let me introduce you to my new favorite friend that solves all these problems. OneBar! OneBar is a low calorie snack that offers one full serving of fruit in each bar. I know, isn’t it amazing? What makes OneBar unique is that it’s line contains baobab as a flavor. Baobab is a super fruit that is packed with more nutrition than any other super fruit. Because of how awesome Baobab are, their trees are endangered. Because OneBar sources the fruit fair trade then they’re able to protect the trees from being cut down. Baobab is a great source of dietary calcium – perfect for vegans and vegetarians. It also has nearly 6x (!) the amount of potassium then bananas. You can use baobab in OneBars as a healthy snack, but you can also use it in smoothies, baked goods, cereals and more.
What’s my favorite OneBar flavor? I’m glad you asked! I am totally in love with the Cherry flavor. It reminds me of a adult fruit rollup.. in bar form. It’s pretty magical when you take that first bite! I can’t wait to hear what you think of OneBar. Tell me in the comments if you have tried them. If you haven’t tried them – which one do you think will be your favorite? Cherry, Apple or Mango?
Check out how awesome the ingredients are of the Mango flavor.
Because I think you rule (I really do) enter the giveaway below for three boxes (Apple, Cherry and Mango) of OneBar. 40 winners (!) will be picked! The giveaway ends on June 19th at noon PST.
If you can’t get enough of them, you can also buy here and use the coupon code EasyFruit which will give you 25% off. Just make sure to order before April 31.
I need to tell you about my new delicious obsession… Taste of Nature bars! Lately I have became super obsessed with their Canadian Maple Forest bars so I just had to tell you about them!
Did you know that 98% of Americans snack but 9 in 10 (85%) admit they find healthy snacking to be difficult? I totally fit into this category. Even as a gardener of many vegetables it’s really easy to grab a box of high calorie crackers or sweet pastries instead of going for something that is much better for your body. Many people say that it’s hard to find a healthy snack that is actually good tasting and I can totally understand this too. Have you tried to eat healthy, bought the said snack, went home, tasted them and just stared into space depressed because it just tastes awful. That totally isn’t going to help you eat healthy! I am so excited that I found a snack bar that is delicious (I’m serious, I’m talking NOM NOM NOM knock your socks off good) and healthy.
Recently I had a afternoon full of friends for a taste party that also involved me trying to beat my record of bouncing a ball up in air with the fun paddle ball sets!
Here are the 6 flavors that were tasted and loved. Many of friends were raving about the Persian Pomegranate Garden bar and they were the first to be completely gone. The Persian Pomegranate Garden bars have pomegranates, figs and tasty walnuts in them. The entire ingredients list is cashews, walnuts, agave nectar, figs, cranberries, apples, pomegranate juice concentrate, brown rice syrup, whole grain brown rice crisps, raspberries, sunflower oil blend and agar. They are only 160 calories as well which also received rave reviews. In fact I think some friends even took one and threw them in their purse when they needed that next day afternoon snack! 42 percent of snackers say they are most likely to have a unhealthy snack between 2:00PM and 5:00PM so is a great substitution to grab instead!
Let me introduce you to my new love interest, Canadian Maple Forest bars from Taste of Nature. These bars include pecans, apricots, Brazil nuts, agave nectar, brown rice syrup, raisins, whole grain brown rice crisps, maple syrup, sunflower oil blend, maple flavour, vanilla flavour, sea salt and agar. Oh hello beautiful. I am totally in love with these.
Some facts for you:
Taste of Nature comes in 6 super delicious flavors in the US: Brazilian Nut Festival, California Almond Valley, Quebec Cranberry Carnival, Canadian Maple Forest, Himalayan Goji Summit, Persian Pomegranate Garden
The bars are certified organic, gluten-free certified, non-gmo project verified packed with real nuts, fruits and grains. There’s nothing scary, artificial or chemical filled in these bars.
They are under 200 calories a bar.
They are $1.99 a piece.
