Boys and girls of every age, wouldn’t you like to see something strange? Come with us and you will see….this, our town of Halloween! This is Halloween – my favorite time of the year!   What’s not to love?  Halloween is when I start seeing Brooklyn brownstones decorated with ghosts on the porch and zombie arms coming out of gardens.  It’s when you see people dressed up as dinosaurs without anyone even looking twice (I admit this is NYC so that isn’t that strange to see).   It’s when you can throw a Halloween bash with friends and families, bake a A&W Root Beer Bundt Cake, serve Orange Sherbet Halloween Punch and have a blast!

To get you excited for the best holiday of the year – I did just that! I threw an early Craveyard party! But what’s a party without good food?
Because every party needs a cake, I made a Bundt Cake with A&W Root Beer and decorated it with a black sugar glaze (spooky) and festive sprinkles on top.

This bundt cake is made with 1 can of A&W Root Beer giving it a delicious, yet not over powering, root beer taste.   This bundt cake is so moist and soft inside!

To make it special for Halloween I poured a white sugar glaze on top, let it cool, and then added a black sugar glaze.  Who doesn’t love double sugar glaze?

Make sure to pick up mini monster cans of A&W Root Beer to serve at your Halloween party on 9/15 through 10/31 at Walmart.   Not only are they spooky cute but they have a Snapchat Snap Code on every can to unlock a special Snapchat filter for 1 hour!   Scan the ghost icon on the cans by holding your phone (with snap open) over the ghost icon and press the ghost icon on your screen – this process unlocks the Snapchat geo-filter for one hour!  I can’t wait to take selfies of Enceladus and I with our Halloween filters!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 7.5 oz can of A&W Root Beer

For the glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • black food dye
  • Additional: Halloween sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Cream together butter and sugar with hand mixer for 5 minutes. Add eggs and vanilla extract, continue to mix. Add in flour, continue to mix. Finally add A&W Root Beer and stir with spoon to make sure it's combined. Pour into 10" bundt cake pan that's been sprayed with nonstick spray. Bake for 70 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool for 15 minutes before removing from pan.
  3. Mix powdered sugar and milk together in bowl with a spoon. Separate in half into two small bowls. For one of the bowls, leave as is. For the other, add a drop of black food dye and stir.
  4. Once cake is cool and removed from pan, pour white glaze on top. Allow to cool for 5 minutes. Repeat with black glaze. Add festive sprinkles on top.

What else does every Halloween party need? A spooky Eyeball Sherbet Punch!  I made a family classic Orange Sherbet Punch that only uses 2 ingredients: Orange Sherbet and 7UP soda.  I love serving Sherbet Punch for Halloween because it naturally foams up and looks great on a festive table scape.  To make it more ghoulish for my graveyard setting, I added some floating eyeball candies on top!
