We’re growing peanuts this year!

We’re growing peanuts in our New York garden for the first time this year!  Read on as we plant Jumbo Virginia peanuts!

Or maybe the title should read “We’re trying to grow peanuts this year!” so I don’t jinx myself.  You might have read that we started our 2017 garden a few weeks ago, which is very exciting, but even more exciting is when we try to grow a new plant!  This year the new plants are celery and peanuts!  This post is all about peanuts though….!

I decided last year I wanted to try to grow peanuts, mostly because I was currently in a peanut butter eating craze.  I did some research and saw some people in the North had successfully grown peanuts so I decided to give it a shot.  Peanuts need a good 4 months of heat, with no frost,  to grow, so let’s hope for a full 120 days of sun for them in our garden!

Oven Baked BBQ Sausage Kabobs

OVEN BAKED BBQ Sausage Kabobs with Mushrooms and Peppers are delicious! This easy healthy recipe bakes the meat and veggie kabobs in the oven so no grill is needed! The sausage has a coat of brown sugar BBQ sauce on it that is so tasty! These are my favorite year round Kabobs that my entire family loves!    This recipe is sponsored by Peapod.

Can you believe it’s almost the end of May?  Pretty soon it’ll be Summer and weekends will be filled with barbecues and picnics!  I love a good barbecue but sometimes it’s hard living in the city.   You either need to live in a building that allows grilling or you need to get to the park early to use one of the grills there.  But not to worry – you can get the same barbecue taste inside with these Oven Baked BBQ Sausage Kabobs! I made these because I was craving barbecued meats and veggies on a rainy day and they quickly became a dinner time favorite!

Sweet Italian Sausage is a necessity for this recipe, and I highly recommend using green peppers and mushrooms, but feel free to add some onions to those kabobs too!

We planted our Spring 2017 garden!

While we’re experiencing a few heated days, we made our way Upstate to start the 2017 garden year and get our veggies planted.  This year we decided to hold off planting a couple weeks due to us having a few scary nights of dropping temperatures last year, but I think we’re in the clear now… and the veggies were ready to move out of Brooklyn and into their new garden home!

We planted our Spring 2017 garden Upstate! Come check out all the veggies we're growing - from broccoli, sugar snap peas, onions, celery and more!

A quick recap, here’s what we planted for our Spring garden and here are the dates that we started the seeds indoors and then moved them outside.
Onions |  March 18 | May 17
Kale   |   March 26 | May 17
Cabbage  | March 26 | May 17
Brussels Sprouts  | March 26 | May 17
Collards   | March 26 | May 17
Bok Choy | March 26 | May 17
Cauliflower   |  March 26 | May 17
Broccoli  |   March 26 | May 17
Celery    |  March 26 | May 17
Lettuce |  April 22 |  TBA
Carrots  | May 17 (directly in soil)
Sugar Snap Peas | May 17 (directly in soil)

As you can see from last year’s Spring veggies, not too much has changed.  We have our usual cast of characters, with one new addition.  This year we’re going to try to grow celery for the first time!   Honestly, the seeds were kind of jerks and really hard to germinate so we had to plant them twice.  Even then, the seedlings looked pretty pathetic and  weren’t up to par with their plant siblings.   At the very last minute I found this pack of 6 celery plants for $2 on our way Upstate so I got them.   We grow all of our veggies from seeds, but this year the celery just wasn’t happening so I had to give in and buy a pack.   Looks like I have to investigate more into these fussy, hard to germinate seeds for next year!

Breakfast Time With Goblin

Tracking PixelIt’s breakfast time with Goblin! This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of CANIDAE® Under The Sun®.

Goblin had a fantastic Sunday morning.  It involved chin rubs, cheek kisses,  finally pinning his 12 pound Maine Coon sister (Toes), chasing some plastic and getting to see a bird land on the air conditioner outside the window.  The bird was pretty much the highlight of his year so far and he has been pacing by the windows ever since waiting for the next bird to arrive.   After all that fun, Goblin was hungry so it was definitely breakfast time.

We have a pretty regular dining schedule with the cats that usually always starts with the cats buttering us up with a leg rub, kiss and plenty of hungry meows.  When putting their bowls down I have to walk slowly as my 5 hungry fur babies circle my feet.

Do you ever have a meal that you become obsessed with?   All of a sudden you don’t want a different meal every night, you want this one dish every single night until you get sick of it (which doesn’t seem because possible because you love it so much).  That’s how I feel about this Kale Rainbow Salad.  I LOVE IT!

I’ve been living on this salad for lunch and dinner.   Even if Matthew talks me into making something else for dinner, I have a big side dish of this salad because I crave it so badly!  A few years ago I wasn’t even that into kale, and then we started growing it and my life was changed forever.   Move over lettuce and arugula, there’s a new best green for salads in town and it’s name is kale!

Baby’s Crib Reveal!

Time to reveal the baby’s crib in our NYC apartment!  Space, planets, clouds and robots were our inspiration!  This post is in partnership with buybuy BABY.

Oooo – things are getting serious here! We’re doing a crib/nursery reveal!  If baby is reading this,  please stay in my belly for another 10 weeks.  But then again, if baby is reading this, we really need to talk because how do you have a laptop in there?

The last few months we’ve put hard work in making a baby nursery, building it from the ground up in our loft.  Thankfully Matthew is a Mr. Super Handyman although I think we both had internal moments of “I can’t take this mess anymore!” while construction was happening.  But the day is here… the nursery is done and ready to go!  Today I’m going to show you my most favorite part of the room – this is where the baby is going to have sweet dreams and eventually escape so she play with her feline brothers and sisters – the crib!

We’re in love with it!
Baby Nursery_4

We wanted her room to be simple but with touches of things that will inspire her.   We wanted touches of things that her Mom and Dad are really into and can’t wait to share with her.  I’m already picturing her in her crib pointing at the framed picture saying “Saturn!”.  Gosh, that would be a proud Mama moment there.    We went with grey paint on the walls, mostly white furniture and some pops of color.  Throw in our love of space and dinosaurs and you have her nursery!
