I love kitchenware that is colorful and has funky designs.   I have a cabinet filled with darling tea mugs because I can’t help myself when I see a new one.  Matthew asks does 1 person need 30 tea mugs?  Of course I do!   Same goes for plates and bowls in the house. Not only do I love a selection of kitchenware because I have to try to take pretty food pictures for the blog but I love them for everyday serving.  Food becomes more fun and loved when you can serve dinner on bunnies eating carrots plates,  drink out of glass etched pumpkin face mugs and eat cookies out of vintage inspired polka dot bowls.

When I learned that Vintage Charm™ Inspired by Pyrex® was releasing a fun series for the holidays I basically decided I needed to buy everyone who I know loves cooking or entertaining a set.  I also decided I needed to buy myself every design because I’m obsessed with them.  Vintage Charm was inspired by the classic Pyrex opal glass bowls from the 50s and 60s so they released Vintage Charm which puts a modern twist on popular patterns that evoke feelings of nostalgia.    As soon as I saw these polka dot bowls I had to fill them with cookies because it reminded me exactly of being a little girl making holiday cookies in the kitchen with Mom.

Easy Shrimp, Tomato & Corn Salad – 15 Minute Meal!

Easy to make Shrimp, Tomato & Corn Salad that is ready in 15 minutes.  This is perfect to serve for dinner over pasta, as a appetizer or a light lunch.

This is my current go to lunch as well as go to appetizer for dinner parties if I don’t have time to bake some homemade bread.   I love this dish because it’s easy to make, filled with healthy vegetables and is delicious.  If I’m expecting a solo dinner, I can quarter this recipe and serve over some fettuccine noodles and it tastes like a gourmet meal.  I love the taste of lime and cilantro to garnish a dish, but if lime isn’t your thing you could substitute lemon juice instead.   You could also turn this into a full salad and throw it on top of some crunchy arugula – another one of my favorite lunches!  See, isn’t this salad awesome because it’s so flexible?  Hope you enjoy!

Japanese Curry – Karei Raisu

Delicious homemade Japanese Curry using beef, onions, potatoes, carrots and curry sauce mix.

I love Curry.  And I’m not talking about Steph Curry because you guys know I’m a Cavs fan.  I’m talking about curry, the delicious dish that can be found in multiple varieties around the world.   In Morimoto’s cookbook Mastering the Art of Japanese Cooking he writes “Japanese curry is like the final whisper in an international game of telephone.  It began in India, moved to and morphed in England, and settled in my home country ….every prefecture and every family has its own version”.

Right now I’m really into Morimoto’s cookbook to get better at Japanese cooking. Powered Sugar GINGERBREAD Cookies

Powered Sugar GINGERBREAD Cookies! These cookies are so soft and chewy! This is a easy recipe that doesn’t require you to chill the dough so they’re quick and simple to make! They have a pretty powdered sugar decorated top for kids to help with! These are one of the best Christmas cookies to make!

This week has been rough so I baked you some cookies.  Not just any cookies, these are one of my favorite holiday treats, Gingerbread Cookies with Powdered Sugar sprinkled on top.   They have a gingerbread taste that everyone will love, especially around the holidays.  Since I’m terrible at decorating gingerbread men with icing instead I went the easy route of sprinkling powdered sugar which makes a pretty cookie. 

Powered Sugar GINGERBREAD Cookies! These cookies are so soft and chewy! This is a easy recipe that doesn't require you to chill the dough so they're quick and simple to make! They have a pretty powdered sugar decorated top for kids to help with! These are one of the best Christmas cookies to make!

You can make these cookies crunchy or chewy depending on bake time.  I personally prefer a soft chewy cookie, especially when slightly dipped in a cup of milky tea.  Yum!  
Gingerbread Cookies with Powdered Sugar sprinkled on top are one of my favorite holiday cookies. Unlike most gingerbread cookie recipes this one doesn't require you to chill the dough. Recipe makes 2 dozen cookies.

Mini Coffee Cake Muffins

RECIPE for Mini Coffee Cake Muffins that taste just like Coffee Cake but in muffin form!  They are so easy to make! You’ll love the delicious cinnamon sugar crumble on top too!   Recipe makes 16 mini muffins. 

These Mini Muffins are delicious. D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!   As a kid one of my favorite desserts was coffee cake – breakfast, dessert, holidays – it didn’t matter, when I saw it I was always going to have a piece!  I was recently craving a piece of coffee cake but wasn’t in the mood to make a entire cake. I really love mini muffins because since they are small it means I can eat 1 (or 2) without guilt.   For these Mini Coffee Cake Muffins, they taste just like traditional Coffee Cake with the moist cake and the cinnamon sugar crumble on top.

Moving Kale Indoors for a Rough Winter

How to move your kale indoors if you’re having a extra cold, rough Winter.  This will make sure your kale will survive for a  few extra months!

My prediction is that we might have a bad Winter this year.  Already in the garden Upstate we have nights in the 20’s and a few days of snow.   Plus I saw a white wooly bear caterpillar in the woods and Google told me they were signs of a deep Winter approaching.  The garden is pretty much done for the year minus the collards, Brussels Sprouts and kale.   The collards and Brussels Sprouts will call it quits when they’re ready to but I really wanted to save the kale.  Even though kale is pretty hearty and can withstand cold frost temperatures,  it gets very cold in the mountains so I decided to bring it inside our greenhouse to live for the next few months to make sure it survives.

Like my post on bringing pepper plants indoors for the Winter, this has similar instructions.  We dig up the plants carefully and then transplant to new pots.  We’ll water the plants weekly.    Even though it takes a little work to get them dug up, it’s worth it to have fresh vegetables throughout the Winter if you are in a cold climate.

This is our bed of kale.  It’s still looking good but the drop of temperatures caused it’s lower leaves to start to die. Time to save the kale!

How To Turn Pumpkins Orange

Easy tip on how to turn green pumpkins orange quickly indoors.  This works for small and large pumpkins.

Pumpkins can turn from green to orange pretty quickly and easily indoors.    There’s a number of reasons why you might want to bring your green pumpkin inside, the main ones being change of weather (frost hits the plant) or animals eating your pumpkins.  A few weeks ago after a dramatic drop in the temperature I had to pick many of our big pumpkins that were still green.    If you spend a few months growing a pumpkin then you know the heartbreak if you don’t get to see it turn orange.  Right now with the temperatures changing it’s the perfect time to bring your pumpkins indoors to turn orange.  After they turn orange you can continue to let them decorate your home,  or eventually cut them open and bake them for pumpkin puree. November and December are great times to decorate and bake with pumpkin!Easy tip on how to turn green pumpkins orange quickly indoors. This works for small and large pumpkins.

I turn pumpkins to their bright orange color the same way I turn  my tomatoes red.
