Wednesday Chit Chat – How Are You?

I used to love these weekly “how are you posts” but I fell off the wagon a bit.  But now I’m back and I’m ready to chat.  So how are you doing? How’s your family? How’s your cats? How’s your job?  How’s the weather?  Are you looking forward to the holidays?

I know, that’s lots of questions.  Take your time answering them.

I guess I’ll answer them too.

How am I doing?
I’m caught a bug. No, not a cute little garden bug.  This is a sneezy, sniffly, ear ringing (I sound like a commercial) bug.  We’ve had a long week of working and as sometimes happens the day after nonstop work the body needs to crash.  My body crashed straight into bed.  I’ve been sniffling so much I’m sure I annoy everyone in our office (I’m sorry!).  Also I can’t really eat anything so I’ve been living on tea, juice and broth (but sometimes that grosses me out too).   Whenever anyone eats in front of me I have to go to the other room.  The smells! AGH!    Hopefully this will clear up in a few days… until then I’ll be moping around.

How’s my family?
I have some sad news about our Baby Bofinkles.  Last week she was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.  Ever since her sickness earlier this year Bofinkles has lost almost 2 pounds so I didn’t have a good feeling going into the blood tests.  The vet said we did catch it relatively early based on her tests, but she is a 13 year old lady already.  Her diet will change to low protein and she’ll be taking supplements twice a day.  Eventually I might have to administer her IV a few times a day but we’ll see if that comes to that.  She’s already glaring at me with that thought in mind.    Bofinkles is my special girl, I wrote about her recently and I really just can’t explain how much I love her.  I don’t have a kid but I consider her my baby.  She needs me as much as I need her.  Lots of people comment that they’ve never seen a cat so attached to someone, I could carry her around in my arms all day and she would love it.   She’s just a big special piece of my heart so I’m a bit saddened by this, especially with Essy who died earlier this year.  I just want to be a good cat mama.  Group hug?  Please?
Beautiful Bofinkles

In other family news, the other rug rats are good.

Goblin continues to become crazier everyday.  He also continues to follow Brother everywhere.

Xanadu turned 8 years old last month.
Happy 8th Birthday to Xanadu Pluto! 8 years ago she came into our lives and it's never been the same since! Love you Xany! #cat #cats #siamese #siamesecat #whitecat #xanadu #birthday #happybirthday #catsofinstagram #cake

She also doesn’t want Goblin to kiss her and will yell about it.
Brother being ok with this picture, Goblin trying to kiss Xanadu, Xanadu shouting out not to kiss her, Bofinkles on the floor beacause she did not want to participate in this family photo. #cats #cat #catlady #goblin #cats #cat #persiancat #Persian #fluff

And Goblin is just Goblin.
This is Goblin falling asleep. 2 seconds after this picure was taken he was upside down on the floor. What a guy. #goblin #cats #cat #persiancat #Persian #fluffy #fluffball #kitten #furry #catsofinstagram #greycat #cutie #catlady

How’s work?
Busy!  The last week we spent shooting multiple holiday campaigns and projects. Now we’ll be in full editing mode for the next 2 months.  We tend to like to shoot a bunch at once and then disappear in front of the computer.    I snapped a few photos from on set last week, do you want to see?

And what would a on set post be without food catering pictures?

The tomato eggplant soup was pretty amazing.

In blog job news, I’m working on lots of fun upcoming campaigns – recipes and reviews. I can’t wait to share with you!

How’s the weather?
Confusing, especially for the garden.  Some of our cauliflower plants got super confused by the start of Fall and then suddenly almost 90 degree days.  The pumpkins as well.  The pumpkins depress me the most.  I’m not even sure we’re even going to get one pumpkin this Fall due to weather + disease.  It’s a bummer.
In other happier garden news… here’s some updates.
3 boxes of sugar snap peas were planted, they all came up!

Tons of radishes… as if I needed more with 2 big bags already in the fridge! Radish recipes?

Kale, kale, lots of kale!
Picked a bunch of kale from the garden, what's your favorite kale recipe? Help me out! #kale #recipe #foodblog #food #blogger #vegetablegarden #rooftop #NYC #Brooklyn #vegetables #healthyeating #garden #gardening #urbanfarming #urbangarden #containergar

Plenty of bok choy, plenty of tomatillos!  We’re probably going to pick all the tomatillos next week.  They ruled this year.
Some of today's harvest. So much bok choy, so little time. #bokchoy #tomatoes #tomatillos #vegetablegarden #rooftop #NYC #Brooklyn #vegetables #healthyeating #garden #gardening #urbanfarming #urbangarden #containergarden #harvest #gardenchat #farmgirl #g

We grew beans this year! I’m going to do a whole post on it because I think it’s pretty cool.
Grew black beans for the first time this year. It worked! High 5! #vegetablegarden #Brooklyn #vegetables #healthyeating #garden #gardening #urbanfarming #urbangarden #containergarden #harvest #gardenchat #farmgirl #greenthumb #rooftopgarden #citygarden #

Cantaloupe! I’m obsessed with cantaloupe chips.
Cantaloupe for breakfast. Cantaloupe for lunch. Picked this beauty in the garden. #Cantaloupe #melon #foodblog #food #blogger #vegetablegarden #rooftop #NYC #Brooklyn #vegetables #healthyeating #garden #gardening #urbanfarming #urbangarden #containergar

Am I excited for the holidays?
Guys, it’s October 1st! The best time of the year is about to start!
This means I get to dress Goblin up in different costumes that he hates.
Goblin went to the salon and got a new hair style. Xanadu is confused by this. #goblin #cats #cat #persiancat #Persian #fluffy #fluffball #kitten #furry #catsofinstagram #greycat #braids #hair #style #doll #siamesecat #cutie #costume #catcostume

It also means I get to wear my eyeball dresses (made by Lazy Oaf!).

Well that’s it.. I leave you with 2 more thoughts.

Buying a bulk pack of 180 Oreos sounds like a great idea in theory, but it’s really not.  Don’t do it.
Had my first Costco experience today and bought a bulk pack of Oreos. Priorities you know? Goblins in bulk not available for purchase. #costco #oreos #oreo #cookies #goblin #cats #cat #persiancat #Persian #fluffy #fluffball #kitten #furry #catsofinstag

And Girl Power.

  • Sorry to hear that you are sick and poor Bo Finkles πŸ™ I know how much that sweet little kitty means to you. Happy Birthday, Xanadu! Goblin and Brother always make me laugh, they are quite the pair! Do you want to send some of that kale my way? Ours won’t be ready for a few more weeks and yours looks delicious. Thanks for the update, Pamela! Have a great week πŸ™‚

  • Ah…I’m so sorry to hear about your kitty. That makes my heart sad – I know how much you both mean to each other. They have a way of snagging our hearts. We are sending good, healing thoughts your way. And your eyeball dress? So fun! Love it!

  • Oh – so sorry to hear about the sick kitty – hope she does well with the treatments! Our dog, Riley is getting to be an old guy, with a variety of ailments catching up to him. He’s a rescue, and wasn’t well treated before we got him, and the vet says that was bound to shorten his life ultimately. Sad about that.

Everything else is awesome – tons of veggies coming out of the garden still, so I am busy getting it all put up. A bunch of family here to visit and that was fun. Totally digging my husband’s retirement and taking advantage of the extra freedom to do what we want. it all goes on….

  • You and your husband are like two Energizer Bunnies! I don’t know how you do all that you – and you do everything so very well. Looks like you got a bumper crop of many of the things you planted – sorry about the pumpkins. It’s such a bummer when they don’t make it. (I did hear that a great many people didn’t actually get pumpkins this year.. something about the pollination of the flowers, I think. And I too love beans – esp. pole beans. I haven’t grown any veggies in a while, thanks to some ‘varmits’, who seem to eat my flowers only in the spring, so at least I have some great flower gardens.
I’m so sorry about your sick little kitty. I can only imagine how much you love her. (I think it’s a ‘her’.) And I hope you’re feeling better yourself. I’ve been fighting a nasty strep infection myself and I’m NOT getting very much done lately – it sure is frustrating….
I so enjoyed this post. You guys are just so darned adorable. I loved the photos you posted not long ago when you were at a wedding. You & your husband have a funky style that you really make work – I love it! ; o )

    • Thanks for the nice comment Cecile, they always make me smile. We had a bunch of rain when the pumpkin flowers were ready to pollinate so that was definitely a factor for us too! Every morning I went up there to the roof to try to self pollinate and mixed in with water, it just wasn’t happening! Thankfully we had a nice Summer pumpkin harvest and I frozen a bunch of puree to enjoy this Fall!

I hope you’re feeling better and getting over your sickness too! <3

  • Totally off the subject at hand – I saw an excellent documentary about Francesca Woodman. I think her work is totally amazing! Did you learn about her in art school? Do you like her her? She was so ahead of her time, and, although she didn’t live a long life – her work lives on.

  • So sorry to hear that you’re sick, and truly sorry about Bofinkles! One of our cats had the same thing, and the low protein diet really helped. We eventually (after quite a few years) had to do the IV thing, and once you (and Bofinkles!) get used to it, it’s pretty easy to do. Great post. We were in NYC last week, and walked across the Williamsburg bridge from Manhattan to eat dinner on your side of the river.

  • Brother and Goblin are so, so cute together.
So sorry to hear about the kidney problems. πŸ™ πŸ™ Glad you guys caught it early so you can try to manage it. Also, hope you feel better soon!

  • Such a fab post, love how much energy you have Pamela, it really shows and inspires too. Your kitties are gorgeous, hope Bo Finkles isn’t in too much pain. Also, sorry if there is a double comment. I got an error message saying the comment had timed out. πŸ™

  • Sorry to here about Bofinks πŸ™ My very, very, (very) elderly cat who passed away last year had renal problems for several years — several really GOOD years where she was perfectly happy and playful (maybe even TOO playful for a 20-something). She’d go to the vet for subcutaneous fluids every so often, but she flat out refused to eat the low protein food and mostly just wanted packets of gravy for every meal lol. I’m not sure what’s typical in these cases, but I hope that your luck is as good as ours was (other than being sassy about the food) and your baby has many, many good years left in her <3

  • Such cute kitties, Pamela! What great photos!
Sounds like things are fun for you right now … sorry about your little kitty’s problem, though. At least you have a diagnosis, though, so now you know what to do to help her πŸ™

  • Oh no, I”m so sorry to hear about Bofinkles and hope you feel better soon. Happy birthday to Xanadu and your holiday campaign shoots sound like so much fun! Gorgeous gorgeous kale too!

  • I love your outfits – and can’t go anywhere without black and proper booties or even sneakers and these are beautiful photos of your kitties, sooo cute! Looks like we have something in common! Love this post, I would love to see this more often! I’m sorry to hear about your baby Bofinkles, I wish her tons of wellness and please let me know how she is doing! You are an amazing cat lady!
